Illustrator vs. Inkscape
Image tracing match

I had to vectorize an illustration I have made for a client, and first tried Illustrator, with really poor results (as you can see below), and this despite trying every possible combination of settings. I just never looked even halfway decent.
Then I tried #inkscape and to my surprise it produced an excellent result, even with the default settings!
Ok… I shouldn't be surprised actually 😀

Do you have any manual on how did you do that around? (In ink scape, I have no interest in Illustrator) Would be very helpful for me

@alien
I just went with the default settings here:
Of course, this will not work the same for all kinds of images.

@earsmeardius ya I'm really surprised. Last time I tried I got so many unnecessary artefacts. But I guess it works also way better with black and white pics?

BTW, are the bicycle wheels modeled as circles in the vector format or approximated in a different way?

@lumiukko @earsmeardius
Indeed I was surprised as well. Previous attempts haven't produced great results. Maybe they changed something in the meantime (I'm using v.1.4) or maybe it's, like you say, just better for black&white drawings like this one.

The original drawing was made in Krita and I think I used the circle tool to draw the wheels.

I think the thing about inkescape which I played around with on and off is I hated it’s ux. Maybe they’ve managed to make it look little less weird.

I use blender, I use krita, I use gimp and the interface for Inkscape is just felt really cheesy.

It's actually moon dust from a Cheddar gorge meteorite.

If you're on windows, you probably got the worst theme enabled, it does look better elsewhere.
