Forecasters warn of a 'potentially catastrophic' storm from Texas to the Carolinas
Google's weather is forecasting 18" of snow now in DFW which is patently absurd and I'm pretty sure has almost no basis in reality.
NWS and AccuWeather are forecasting more like 1.7-1.8" which I find far more realistic and likely.

in reply to paul • • •Given that key components of your gas central heating system rely on electricity, the unfortunate answer is that, in most cases, your gas central heating will stop working during a power cut. While the boiler may still be capable of producing heat, the lack of power to ignition systems, pumps, and controls means that heat wonβt be effectively distributed throughout your home.
If youβre lucky enough to experience only a brief power outage, your heating system should resume normal operation as soon as power is restored. However, during a longer power cut, itβs important to consider alternative ways to stay warm and ensure that your pipes donβt freeze, particularly in freezing weather.

But also, and I hate to be a βwell, actuallyβ guy because yeah, that happens now and again, but because of that, we have a nationwide organization that has active local chapters that teach proper safety and technique, and overall is not as dangerous as it seems. Youβre in infinitely more danger driving to and from a cave than being in one, so long as you maintain a healthy respect for the potential dangers. Iβve been caving since β92 and have been momentarily stuck a time or two two, but have never needed to be rescued. I know a few people that needed rescue or assistance in emergencies, but they have generally been handled swiftly and competently by people trained in cave rescue.
I do completely respect anyoneβs fear/hesitancy though as I have been there!

Too many forecasters are chomping to predict ever grandiose disasters to keep eyes glued to them.
It's a snow storm, not a Cat 47 hurricane
