The editorial staff requested I trim down the earlier version, which included an extensive breakdown of the downsides / surveillance of the Big Social Platforms. They said, "Let's assume folk already sorta understand that legacy social media is toxic."
"why not Lemmy" boils down to a) the target audience, folk who know nothing about the fediverse, are more likely to be using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and b) [image]

I didn't interpret your post as rude!
No, that's the first time I've written for them. Prior to deleting my Facebook account, I'd been chatting with a friend about The Fediverse, and they invited me to submit an article. I don't generally identify as "a writer", and I was really glad to have the opportunity!
Slingshot seems like a really cool magazine, definitely some good reads to be found therein.
