am in a very somber mood today.

to add to what @StillRise1963@mastodon.world said here
mastodon.world/@StillIRise1963…

a criminal who uses their toddler child as a human-shield against assassination attempts; a bigot who is willing to attack their own daughter and feed her to the wolves because she is transgender, is a man willing to commit unspeakable atrocities.

and he has a whole political party behind him.

this coup will not end until Americans deal with these sociopaths by all means necessary.

As an African American, I know how important it is to never give up, so don’t. But, you’ll get NOWHERE if don’t understand your enemy. The government has been TAKEN OVER. We have no normal levers of control because the infiltration involves ALL decision makers. So, this is a different animal and the solutions are things we’ve never done before.

in thinking about the violence already happening, woke up thinking about archeologists; most specifically, Equipo Argentino de Antropología Forense:

❝ It was created in 1986 at the initiative of various human rights organisations with the aim of developing forensic anthropology techniques to help locate and identify the Argentines who had disappeared during the "Dirty War" period of the 1976–1983 military dictatorship.❞

❝ A forensic anthropologist can assist in the identification of deceased individuals whose remains are decomposed, burned, mutilated or otherwise unrecognizable, as might happen in a plane crash. Forensic anthropologists are also instrumental in the investigation and documentation of genocide and mass graves. Along with forensic pathologists, forensic dentists, and homicide investigators, forensic anthropologists commonly testify in court as expert witnesses. ❞

Computer forensics -

and the more broad practices of Digital forensics

will be some of the most imporant disciplines and careers of the next decade.

we need all manner of computer science geeks to step up NOW and start speed-learning how USA government functions, from the federal down to the local.

we need hordes with black, gray and white skills to sousveil, archive and analyze this coup.

but that means we need techies with strong understanding of not just History with capital H. we need people with a strong understanding of how history is made materially. that there is no History but histories burrowed in the mundane little things people do not think of as important until they are dug up from a soccer field that was once a mass grave for Desaparecidos.

we need geeks eager to re-imagine their skills as archeologists and forensic pathologists of the digital kind.

more importantly, USA should have had their own “Equipo de Antropología Forense”, by the dozens, for helping identify:

- dead migrants, especially at marked around rape trees

- dead during the genocidal Trail of Tears and other Native removal projects

- dead in prisons, jails, military bases, suspiciously and without accountability

and these are a few very real and current use cases.

to fight the death cult of the "American Dream", we need a whole generation of forensic archeologists. /🧵

❝ A team of forensic scientists in Argentina is helping to bring peace to families who lost their loved ones in the so-called "Dirty War".

That was a period in the 1970s and '80s when government death squads hunted down and killed political opponents.

The work to identify those who disappeared is ongoing and scientists are lending the skills they developed to other conflict areas across the globe.❞

Will anyone actually be hiring, though? Seems like the people with the money are all in on the grift. -.-

@woozle I can only use my own experience as a cybersecurity professional here but I think this is going to come from underground or grassroots and not from any government or corporate entity.

People like me need to begin steering our skills in digital forensics, threat hunting, and incident response towards the benefit of the greater good.

Just to clarify the context of what I was saying: some of us can't afford to devote nearly as much time to this as we'd like, because we're constantly worrying about money.

in reply to Woozle Hypertwin

@woozle @c_merriweather that's why this needs to be a collective action. Where people can devote whatever time they can spare.

how about this reframe:

and people who will be glad to work on it not for capitalist profit but because it is what they do best.

people need to get paid to do this kind of work. we can’t depend on the idle rich classes to do the kind of work that would hamper or even put an end to their rentier-dependent wealth.

we need to raise money and resources for people to do this work for a long fucking time so they can teach others.

this is legacy, lifelong work.

@c_merriweather @0xF21D @woozle Right. We need to think like the Founders of the Black Panthers, who started neighborhood free breakfast for local kids, medical clinics, and worked to get people housed. And I tell you what, gun laws changed because they armed up. It’s the only time we’ve seen gun restrictions like that.
in reply to MissConstrue

@MissConstrue @c_merriweather @woozle there’s a wide gulf between what a corporation has to keep its computer systems secure and what your average person has. Guess who suffers the most this day and age?

There’s got to be a way to extend those resources outward.
