SCOOP: YouTube removes 'gender identity' from hate speech policy. "YouTube quietly removing ‘gender identity and expression’ from its list of protected groups is a major radical shift away from best practices in the field of trust and safety." usermag.co/p/youtube-removes-g…

Under the list of examples of hate speech provided on YouTube’s policy site, the line “[Protected group status] is just a form of mental illness that needs to be cured,” was also removed. usermag.co/p/youtube-removes-g…

Just a few weeks ago, the governor of Iowa specifically removed “gender identity” from the state's anti-discrimination protections, becoming the first state to make such a change. usermag.co/p/youtube-removes-g…

Adding expression takes it a step further, meaning that while men still can't technically harass women or girls just for being female, they explicitly can harass them for not having long hair or wearing a dress, hijab, etc. And people, though most frequently that would probably be other men, can also freely harass men for not looking or acting macho enough.

YouTube (and their owners Google) are evil. Time to look for alternatives elsewhere.

For what it's worth I've done a guide to publishing on PeerTube at fedi.tips/how-to-publish-video…

PeerTube accounts' followers don't need to be on PeerTube.

People on Mastodon can follow and interact with PeerTube accounts, so if you set up a PT account you can encourage your Mastodon followers to follow it too (fedi.tips/how-do-i-use-peertub…).

People can also follow PeerTube accounts from podcasting apps such as Apple Podcasts (fedi.tips/how-to-subscribe-to-…).

There's a simple thing youtube could have done: replace "gender identity" witth "identify of gender". Then DOGE's 20-something programmers using simple pattern matchers to scan websites will miss it. This can work: some years ago, wise-ass young Chinese referred to Kim Jong Un as Jin San Pang (Kim Three Fat in Mandarin) on social media. North Korea complained, so the phrase was banned. Then the wise guys used homonyms (different characters but the same pronunciation).

The best idea I could come up with off the top of my head:

Ask if Mr. Beast would consider joining a group that is willing to go on strike to bring back protections for trans people.

I don't know if there are enough high-profit youtubers who support trans people to make up for all the money they're making off Joe Rogan. They might choose that it's okay to be a platform only for transphobes, like twitter did. But maybe???

Best place is sepiasearch.org/ but it's honestly less than ideal. I'd state check out #peertube tags on your instance or even just go to Mastodon.Social and search tags there.

Also I've been asking Youtubers to support Peertube. Not getting a lot of traction, but every person that invests in themselves, hedges their bets, and puts their stuff on Peertube invests in all of us.

I might have misunderstood your question though MissConstrue. For finding out general info about Peertube: joinpeertube.org/

If that doesn't help, let me know. Maybe I can do a video on installing and configuring Peertube. I have a Peertube myself for my gaming videos, tech videos, and I do a Fedicast called Fireside Fedi.
