Incredibly hard for a new social medium to overcome the network effect and removing anonymity probably doesn't help, but if they manage to somehow get traction among leaders, governments and other public figures, it could serve as a sort of lower bar opinion page of a traditional newspaper. Where everyone can participate, but not anonymously. I could see this have a certain appeal to serious politicians and journalists. Rage merchants not so much. Not really a Mastodon competitor.
