Is there a manual of sorts for Pixelfed? I can't figure out how fo find people outside my server, how to follow hashtags, etc.

I created a PixelFed (pxlmo) account last night, followed a bunch of hashtags (thinking that was the best way to find accounts to follow), but none of them are showing up in my feed.
Is this a known, temporary glitch or should I try a different server?
