@kristoff A thing about Revelation is that it’s written in a kind of poetic code. “The Beast” is both a sort of “spirit” or “type” that despotic figures can embody. The Beast is also an actual Roman politician (probably Nero), and using this poetic language was a way for Christians to criticize Rome while avoiding punishment, bc the writing would look like “nonsense” if intercepted. So it’s not meant to evoke something dehumanizing (even if it’s been used that way).
