yeah i pretty much agree with much of this video. I'm happy that bluesky is at least *trying* to be decentralized but currently in practice it just isn't, or not in the way that would include the actual benefits of decentralization.

I want to see this change in the future but given the venture capital companies invested in bluesky, it just feels like they have good reason not to deliver on this goal. Plus, we already have a good decentralized social network. The Fediverse isn't mainstream like bluesky is becoming but lately I've made peace with that.

sorry for the long comment.

I feel like it's an insult to activitypub and mastodon that bluesky says their whole thing was to launch a "viable" twitter alternative as soon as possible, as if choosing a server or a piece of software to use on activitypub was too much, and nonviable for the average joe. which, maybe it is, but that's an issue that needs addressed with the general public and their ability to maintain attention to things for longer than a minute

Great take and awesome video. I use and prefer Fediverse social networks over Bluesky. However, most of the people I know won't switch to the fediverse (any time soon), so I also have a Bluesky account to follow them there.

How many Mastodon users also have Linux on their PCs? People who already know that a superior product isn't always the most popular and may require a bit of a learning curve?

I self host a Gotosocial instance on a Raspberry Pi 3 with 1GB RAM and have 200GB storage. A Bluesky relay is no nearly close to that.
