quick aside: they're fine and have an approved plan to come home. This is important in the context of Trump and Elon inevitably claiming to "save them" when the scheduled return trip happens

As an ex NASA employee I am appalled. NASA, at least in my time, strongly encouraged women and minorities to work for them. Great people come from throughout humanity, except of course fascists and by that I mean the republican party of today.

I'm genuinely curious as to why people comply to anything (F)Elon are asking them.

What would be the repercussion if they just refuse, appart from losing a job they're almost guaranteed to lose anyway? Would they face fines or something?
