My aim for the #DulvertonToTarrSteps #hike was to avoid roads as much as possible. Of course, this is an unachievable dream and we found ourselves walking along side a #road, without #footpath by it. You just have to keep alert and walk on the right side o the road. Most #drivers and #riders are fairly considerate and will slow down and give you plenty of space.
By the road, I encountered these #geese. In the #photograph, they appear merely curious about the stranger with a camera but in reality, they were honking and hissing very loudly and being very agressive. I'm really glad there was a barrier between us as I'm sure they would have attacked without it.
Many fields are not fenced and #FarmAnimals can walk freely onto the road. In order to confine them, #CattleGrids are used.
The land is extensively used for agriculture and in this part of #Exmoor, #SheepFarming seem to be the main #industry and so large #fields and #meadows of #pasture are needed to feed them. In #Spring, the grass is a beautiful shade of #green.
Not every part of the land has been taken over by #agriculture and there remain a few areas of unmanaged scrub and bushes.
