The Caesar salad was created in Tijuana, Mexico, in 1924 by Italian immigrant Caesar Cardini at his restaurant, Caesar's Place. The salad was a hit, particularly with American tourists escaping Prohibition, and quickly gained fame, spreading to Hollywood and beyond.
