Dansup: "The future is federated, the source is open [...] and PixelFed stands proudly with every ActivityPub project"
(mastodon.social/@dansup/113951… , archived at archive.is/uPdyG )
Meanwhile:
Loops (a Dansup project) doesn't federate (see replies to the link above)
FediDB isn't opensource (web.archive.org/web/2024123008…)

@beacondb@mapstodon.space The issue is I'm using a paid theme for the current version, so I have to rewrite it with an open source one to not violate any licences. https://www.creative-tim.com/product/vue-argon-dashboardMastodon
The future is federated, the source is open. It's our duty to make sure we build a better social landscape for future generations, you may not realize how impactful you really are.
Together we thrive, and @PixelFed stands proudly with every #ActivityPub project, and will use our newfound publicity to bring awareness to the rest!

Dan has a huge go at GoToSocial for encountering something GTS was testing in an *unreleased* version. The only reason FediDB encountered this behaviour is becasue FediDB itself ignores robots.txt (in simple terms, a file on a website that has instructions for crawlers, e.g. to not allow them to crawl a site - ignoring this file is in itself malicious consent-breaking behaviour, not respecting website owners' wishes to not be crawled).

Further, FediDB does not list GTS as an availble fediverse software, and does not list GTS instances:

(Also you can see Dan saying in one of the above links, 'Regardless, I have removed Gotosocial from FediDB.org.' gitlab.com/diasporg/poduptime/… )

Oh, addendum: the above is not an exhaustive list of all the bad or just plain shady shit Dansup has done. This is just a collection of recent events.

After picking a fight with Tobi and GTS and publicly denouncing GTS because FediDB didn't respect Robots.txt. then getting called out himself for that, he's now adding robots.txt support to FediDB as if nothing ever happened.
From what I've seen there's no apology, no admitting that it should have been there all along, nothing.

@gretared Yeah, it's pretty crap for people just coming over to now find out this, heh.
Re. suggestions, not really - but you could try pixelfed.org/servers , see if there's annything there that looks appropriate 😀
The lacking moderation is why we don't have an instance for .art - we run a very tight safe ship here and we couldn't uphold the same standard of moderation with a Pixelfed server.
