"[The American-owned] Postmedia owns over a hundred Canadian newspapers and most of our major dailies – from the National Post to the Edmonton Journal to the Pembroke Observer and News. Their channels are the primary source of news for millions of Canadians. If Postmedia needed to choose between what’s good for its American owners and what’s good for Canada, what would they choose?" coreyhogan.ca/p/nationalize-po… #cdnpoli #Postmedia

Conrad Black's consolidation of media goes back to the 80s, and by the 90s, it was already taking on debt, ultimately becoming the trash heap of Postmedia, which is continuing the play.

It's not a normal money play for the debt holders...they get their benefits through the side channel of no competition and using Postmedia as a propaganda machine to elect conservatives, so they can make their real money in another industry...like oil.

I cannot emphasize how important the ownership of news media is. Not just the problem of consolidation (which contributes toward oligarchy and fascism) but for consumers of news to know who they're getting their news from.

If you don't know who owns your news sources, you're leaving yourself open to being propagandized to without knowing it. I've made a habit of looking up the ownership of every news source I see before reading their stories.

@Gumberculese @dirtside
I have found Ground.News to be very helpful with regards to news. It lists how many sources are covering a story and provides ownership (independent, government, etc.) and political bias (left, centre, right) so I can see how a story is being covered across the board.
