- To many websites are bringing the same content: "EU alternatives". I understand people want to get involved and take action, but there's also the danger of an information tsunami that it will scare people off.
By the way... I'm starting to be a little bit carefull because there are not only "good" people on Mastodon. I can imagine that people "from the other side of humanity" are sneaking "fake news/information" or "seeds of doubts" into some (EU) discussions.
BE AWARE, dear collegues.

This is great! But. Are talking about products that are just assembled in Europe or products where all or even most of the raw material comes from Europe? For example, I'm extremely glad to find clothing brands that manufacture items here, but where does that fabric come from?

Similarly, a lot of the flavored snack dates sold as "manufactured in Sweden/Estonia/EU" are merely rolled in a flavour dust here, while the actual dates are from Israel, but this isn't required to be disclosed.

@Mimesatwork One of my favourite "Made in EU" clothes shop was very transparent about their journey. They made jeans, and started by manufacturing only, saying they couldn't find enough denim made in EU. Then based on the manufacturing success, they could find a dye shop to dye imported cotton. And now they're helping grow a European cotton, hemp and flax industry based on those early wins.
Let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good, if the good helps us take a step forward.

@juliette I'm sorry, but this isn't a question of letting perfection getting in the way. This database is in its infancy. I made the comment to let them know it would be prudent for everyone to have information of actual raw material and logistics journeys. This is not unreasonable information to have and it's easier to add now when we're just starting, to give this database an edge over other similar projects. It also signals to the brands that this information is important to the buyers.
