New: Proton, the company behind ProtonMail, emailed staff to say it will be 're-interviewing' workers about how they use AI. The implication is, if you're not using AI, or won't learn, you may lose your job. “These re-interviews are consequential,” a leaked email seen by 404 Media reads.

Ok so the commercial brand of multiple different tools you call "AI" supposedly is "against human workers". If you are blaming the technology itself why don't you blame also other technologies that could be considered also "against human workers"?. Did you hear about the poor manuscript copyist that loose their job because of the printing press? Do you read books written by hand or are you "against human workers"? The most funny of all is that many of those tools you call "AI" will NEVER replace completely human workers.

Of course to try to have the last word you perform the dirty tactic of blocking just after answering. How strong arguments you have.

YOU are the one "against human workers" because being born way after the invention of printing press is no excuse to read printed books and to despise the work of those poor manuscript copyists.

@peach @tristen
Your take, is extremely funny because what printing press did was EXACTLY "rip off /copy" handwritten books (other humans work) to also "cut out the human doing the creating". And also what you call "gen-ai" (that is a misleading commercial brand for a bunch of very different tools) "in a way" make books (and other types of content) "more widely available". You made me so easy to answer your wrong take just by reproducing your own words that i guess you didn't think it for a second before calling me stupid.

There is one thing you wrote i agree, "they are not the same" LLMs will never substitute completely the work of code writers. The stupid CEOs that fired tons of employees thinking the LLMs can make all the work have been proven wrong and many companies are hiring them back. However the printing press completely erased from earth the manuscript copyist profession.

Considering they are probably under financial (among other types of) attack, this is likely. That's how the enemy would approach it, and the pattern we keep seeing play out with any service or source that gets a bit too close to popular or reliable...

I usually look for confirmation of claims of MAGA supporting. Unfortunately Reddit is full exaggeration & fabrication. I know many have entrenched views, and I hate fascists, musk, trump etc intensely. I have used email systems claiming to support 'freedom' when it was patently untrue.
For Proton, I am happy with what is reported in: medium.com/@ovenplayer/does-pr…. So no knee-jerk reactions yet, but I keep a close watch, not wanting to jump out of the cauldron into the fire.

@IncHulk That post is so dumb I really don't understand why it's still being circulated. Please reread it with a critical eye. If you seriously believe that Republicans are the party fighting for the poor and underprivileged then you need to seriously reevaluate what you stand for. Also perhaps read the news every now and then?
Similarly curious how it doesn't mention Andy going on a long tirade defending Trump and Republicans and calling people criticizing him "triggered", a pretty obvious right-wing dog whistle.

That being said, all of this is besides the point, as you do not, in fact, ever have to "hand it to" the Nazis. Doing so says far more about your beliefs than you may be willing to admit.

in reply to Joseph Cox

i contacted proton about this.

got a reply that could've been, and for all i know was, written by AI...

"In regard to the article you have sent us, AI is changing the tech industry and we, like everyone else, need to evolve our ways of working to remain effective in our industry, and to deliver features faster to users.
Proton exists to protect privacy and give people control over their digital lives.

That commitment guides how we evaluate and use AI, including the tools we use internally. We see opportunities to build better products and work more effectively, but using AI requires judgment about privacy, security, accuracy, and where it adds actual value.

We are assessing how colleagues are adapting to these tools, what support they need, and who can help lead this work. We're looking for concrete improvements in their work and thoughtful decisions about when to use AI - and when not to."

@Philippe 🇧🇪 🇪🇺 For many people (including myself), it really isn't about the outcome, but the decision itself to use a technology with such awful and global externalities. Individual project outcomes are simply irrelevant to me given the mind-boggling scale of these externalities.

It sounds like "wait until you taste the chocolate before stopping using this brand because they use slave labor" to me.
