!Friendica Support

Apologies in advance, as I am new here and was unable to figure out how to search to see if my questions had already been answered.

First, I found a very old post on GitHub indicating it is possible to connect Friendica to Facebook:
github.com/friendica/friendica…

However, I have been unable to locate a Facebook connector in Settings, and my understanding is that this functionality is no longer available due to updates on the part of Facebook.

Could you please confirm that it is no longer possible to connect Friendica to Facebook?

And a separate but related question:

Is it possible to import Facebook data to Friendica after exporting either HTML or JSON files from Facebook?

So far I'm not aware of anybody who has done so.

But in principle yes it is possible. You can even schedule your imported posting into the past to the date when it was originally posted to FB. If you have the data, it can be done, but so far nobody has written an importer to do so. Note even posting into the past will distribute all the posted content to your followers (as it is a new posting here), @Michael Vogel had the idea to add an option to the Friendica API to not deliver those posting (last weekend), but it has not been implemented so far.

Thank you for both replies! It would be fantastic if Friendica could allow the import of Facebook data, as I think it would encourage more people to make the transition if they knew they could keep their old posts and photos. I will keep my hopes up and eyes out for this development!

@Sarah Peck There's a long-standing GitHub issue about this very feature, but there's little traction given that most people working on Friendica have left Facebook a while ago and so have little interest or means to make the import happen.

Please note this URL shows an older revision of the page. The current page is at github.com/friendica/friendica… and is unequivocal about the unavailability of the Facebook connector.

@Sarah Peck do you have access to a JSON file that FB provides? As @Hypolite Petovan mentioned Friendica developers have left FB years ago.

I think connecting the dots to loop over all the postings and re-post them via the API should not be too complicated. But that is likely my sleepy mind liking the idea of having such an importer too much. Also the devil might wait in the details, like attaching media files to the postings etc..

Yes this is not possible anymore. FB changed the rules for the usage of their API and prohibit a FB like user experience... which Friendica kind of is.
