Elon Musk attempts to turn Germany fascist by appearing at the AfD party convention this weekend.

How many members of the Bundestag are still using X, thereby supporting his ad revenue?

And all over Europe: If your country has parliament members still on X, ask them why they support the ad revenue of a guy who is spreading fascism.

Oh many of us did and do... Some official government accounts where here in the fediverse for a bit but felt there's not enough "likes and engagenment" (not the exact words). They are so lost it's a tragedy... the only party that understands to (ab)use social media are the nazis.
in reply to Randahl Fink

You should mention the again huge protests against this kind of "politics" as well.

Very good point although that's going to be a hard idea to sell to Vox, Rassemblement National, Reconquête, Fratelli d’Italia, Lega per Salvini Premier, Forza Italia, Partij voor de Vrijheid, Fidesz, FPÖ, PiS, Union Democratique du Centre, Sverigedemokraterna, Dansk Folkeparti, Fremskrittspartiet, Perussuomalaiset or Reform UK Party Limited.

Do let me know if I've missed any out!

not just appearing, but praising the German monoculture (a.k.a. Arian race) and warning to prevent it from multicultural dilution. (a.k.a great replacement theory).
It doesn't get more facist

Making Germany Great Again may sound little dangerous to neighbor states...
in reply to Chao-c'

@xChaos And it is dangerous. Especially dangerous to the concept of the EU as an entity.

X and Elon Musk is in a spiral of getting more and more extreme each day. Why isn't someone closing it down?
in reply to Johan Saxe

I don't think any government in Europe has thought or dared to think about closing X yet
in reply to lars

@lars @johansaxe I think we may see a reaction towards misinformation from the EU in 2025, but rallying a political majority takes time.

The parliament already adopted the Digital Service Act in 2022, which makes it illegal not to moderate social media content.

Now they just have to enforce the law.

We ban RT because of it's russian propaganda (absolutely legitimate), but we allow X to destroy our democracies and even support it. Some things I don't really get.
in reply to Oliver Brandmüller

Yep, I asked myself the same question earlier.

At least the EU seems to be taking the danger X poses seriously.

@Bundesregierung and @AuswaertigesAmt need to act on this.

Also, time to call out the many lazy journalists/ news sources who state "[Person/ Organisation] stated on X/Twitter that...." without any other sources referenced.

What about other sources, not just Mastodon, and some evidence of analytical thinking?

in reply to Randahl Fink

@Bundesregierung says:
YES !!! (!)

Apart from consuming:
Have a look about how many millions € the EU gives directly to them by programs like Horizon.
Then have a look about how many cents the Fediverse, and Open Protocols got.

I found that with ad blockers and Pihole X blocks access to their site. If I turn off pihole I regain access. It gives me an extra reason to use my Pihole.

some thoughts on the dynamics around this, and my part in it mastodon.social/@urlyman/11389…

A recent Guardian article about quitting Facebook drew lots of comments like 'I only use it for my local group', and 'I just use the marketplace' - A lot of people still don't get that by using it at all you financially contribute (via the adverts that are sold using your clicks and data) to the circulation of disinformation, hatespeech, child exploitation, etc, etc...

After deleting my account of X, I was wondering though the impact from removing a lot of non-fascists thoughts and publications from the public discourse on X. It may be best to keep the data there but just not post anything? Grok will be pure fascist otherwise and the echo bubble amplified.. I understand that more users adds some legitimacy for marketers but what if you keep only the old posts for example pointing out trump's and maga's crimes and links with russian oligarchs/putin
in reply to Humain

@HumainVirtuel I just left without deleting my account.

Keeping the account prevents someone else from creating an account with that handle to impersonate me.

I understand your thinking, at the end of the day though politicians have to be where people are, they will be the last to leave the cess pit.
in reply to David Crispin

@david_crispin if we made a new movie about a modern rise of fascism, this is 100 percent what it would look like.

I asked my US state senator why he is still on Twit. *crickets*

@randahl! Imagine if the world let just ONE person do whatever they wanted... Sounds like a plot twist from history, right? 😳 Just think about how #Hitler's rise to power unfolded! Yikes! 😱 Fear can be a slippery slope, but let's not hand over our freedom to a dictator! Let’s keep the conversation alive and keep our voices strong! #FreedomMatters
