in reply to Melissa BearTrix • • •I remember when members of the Italian Communist Party (I guess it was the same for all the other countries) weren't allowed to access the USA, and that was asked on the visa form.
In early 1950 my mom had to go to an international trade union conference in Vienna, still occupied by allies until 1955, and she had to travel there through Swiss (by train) to avoid stricter controls.
