already known...but let's put a spotlight on the next ICC judge (from Canada) who is cancelled from the digital life. No Amazon, no Mastercard, no Netflix account...

Just because Trump doesn't like the ruling of an independent international institution like the International Criminal Court.

ICC judges have been forcibly removed from most digital services, credit cards, and banks.

"Amazon, obliged to implement the sanctions as a US company, had cancelled her account."

As Cory Doctorow has ably pointed out in his most recent essay, using digital and banking services as a weapon this way is possible because of the monopoly these American corporations hold. That monopoly is enabled and upheld by our domestic anti-circumvention laws (copyright and other protections).

Far more impactful than any fine would be allowing Canadian individuals and companies to develop domestic versions of these services that fairly compete with risky America versions that can be weaponized by a belligerent government.

This situation isn’t some inevitable and unfortunate act of nature, it is the deliberate end point of a set of policies and laws that can be changed here at home.

@Queen1066 #Wise can be good. But their customer service can also be really poor. If you have a payment you're querying, they're pretty good. But if it's a general admin question (and especially if you're using e-mail) they're so bad you're probably going to end up having to raise it with the ombudsman. Then they will finally resolve the issue. Really questionnable way of doing business. @adfichter

@Queen1066 I have an account with them. I also have an account with Revolut as a backup. Wise is the primary, as Revolut has some higher fees on non-working days and is a bit sketchy. But I wouldn't feel comfortable just with the Wise account. Wise also freezes your account if your balance exceeds a certain amount (geography specific) @adfichter
