@aetios The link I posted was the final vote in plenary, that ultimately failed. The screenshot above is from the vote on Amendment 34, which you can find on our site under the amendment section of the final vote. Hope this clarifies things 🤗

Another question: Where do you get the title for a proposition from? I couldn't find it on the europarl website, and I thought it is pretty strange to add the purpose of a proposal (here: to "combat online child sexual abuse") in the title.

@lumiukko Great question! It’s the official title of the legislative procedure the vote belongs to: oeil.europarl.europa.eu/oeil/e…)
We use that as a fall-back, until all data from Parliament has been uploaded. This is also why you might see this changing at some point.
We don’t editorialize titles or hand-pick them.

Many well intentioned but profoundly naive people voted in favour thinking doing so would help protect children from child pornography /creators and disseminators of same.
The idea that ANY content an authoritarian govt wanted to track or inhibit sharing of could be targeted was rejected, likewise the idea that govts would abuse the capabilities (*despite Europe's history*). Because safeguards always work. 🙄

@HowTheyVoteEU Claire Fita (Occitanie, France) voted for the extension, and she belongs to the "Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats". What's the problem? I'll let you find the link between this vote and progressivism, or socialism, or even democracy... I don't think there is one.

(Now, I don't know if the vote was a "yes for chat control" and it needed more than a simple majority to pass, or if it was a "no for chat control" and the yes votes just scraped by. Those are very different things. But still.)

Wait what? I didn't think private message scanning was ever approved. I thought it kept being blocked and they kept trying to bring it back.
I'm happy and incredibly disappointed that it hadn't passed by just ONE.

AM34 passed with 307 votes and the final text only got 228. The 80 votes lost (mostly among Greens, Left, Renew) were presumably people who voted for the amendment not because they liked it but because they knew EPP wouldn't like it. 157 MEPs in the EPP voted against the amendment and 137 ended up voting against the final text once it passed.

Mittlerweile bin ich überzeugt, dass genau das Ziel und Absicht der Union ist. Und die sPD spielt aus Macht- und Existenzangst mit.
ich halte die Union ja immernoch für schlicht doof, was das Ziel der AfD angeht. Ich glaub, die denken wirklich, sie könnten die wegregieren, wenn sie es wie Strauß machen. Und scheiß doch auf Analysen und Untersuchungen. Die interessieren sie ja bei Umwelt etc auch nciht.

Ne, so viel Dummheit auf einem Haufen ist statistisch gesehen unwahrscheinlich. Das ist Absicht von einigen Akteuren, u.a. Merz (der auch nur ne Marionette* für andere im Hintergrund ist). Die treiben die ganze Politik nach rechts. In vielen Dingen haben sie AfD Pläne bereits übertroffen. Der Plan ist autoritär. Wie in den USA.

@energisch_ @virgil_tibbs hört mal auf von Marionetten und irgendwem im Hintergrund zu sprechen. Das ist verstörendes Schwurblerdeutsch oder auch Magaamerikanisch. Merz hat Ansichten, die durch sein Leben, seine Arbeit, seine Erfahrungen geformt sind. Es sind keine dunklen Mächte dahinter, der Mann denkt so. Ganz alleine. Dafür muss er auch die Verantwortung übernehmen.
Er betreibt ganz eindeutig Klientelpolitik. Für mich ist er deshalb eine Marionette.

Jedes Parlament und die Regierungsmitglieder selbst sollten Dienende sein. Sie sollten versuchen allen Menschen in ihrem Land gerecht zu werden für eine bessere Zukunft. Die Leute im dunklen Hintergrund, den du als schwurbelnd bezeichnest, sollten 'wir' sein, die Bürger*innen dieses Landes und nicht nur eine kleine Gruppe daraus, die über sehr viel Wirtschaft, Geld und deshalb auch Macht verfügt. Merz dient nur dieser kleinen Klientel. Nicht uns allen. 1/2

Etliche in Union und leider auch in sPD haben vergessen, dass sie den Menschen in ihrem Land dienen sollen. Sie werden von persönlichem Ehrgeiz oder den Wünschen einer kleinen Klientel angetrieben (wo sie sich wieder persönliche Vorteile erhoffen). Damit werden sie zu Marionetten oder käuflich oder wie immer du das nennen willst, wenn es weniger schwurbelig klingen soll. Es geht hier um Korruption. Nicht um Verschwörungsgeschichten. 2/2

@energisch_ In den Betrieben dieses Landes weht ein steter Wind bestimmter "Gesinnung"/"Wording" usw. Es gibt Regeln für Smalltalk (Unsagbares, nicht Kiritisierbares). Jeder neue Kollege macht ganz deutlich mit, hält sich an diese Smalltalk-/Kultur-Regeln um Anschluss zu finden.
Die Geschäftsführung jedes Betriebes entledigt sich zuweilen strauchelnder Angestellter und stärkt damit diese Bünde und ...
