when I was young, adults with authority over me loved to tell me that I'd agree with them when I was older, but as I approach 40 they're still wrong and I wish I'd picked more fights with them

Every time I think about this, it makes me angry.
It was a bullshit attempt to stop a kid from making them address their shitty behavior, and it was an insult.
In effect they were saying "Yeah, I gave up on my ideals because I was tired, and you will too!"

When I was younger, I was repeatedly chastised for having a problem with authority. I thought a lot about that and concluded that I was repeatedly failed by authority, and I took issue with that failure. Age and experience are constantly teaching me that I was right.
