It's particularly annoying though when that 'easy mode' still ultimately ends up being stressful, eg. even if you play a Mega Man game in normal 'easy mode,' and not in the special 'Rookie Hunter' mode for the X Legacy Collections or whatever the equivalent is for the MM Legacy Collections, you still have instant-death spikes to contend with, and those can get annoying fast.

Also, something that's kinda funny to think about with spikes being instant death in Mega Man, is in the MMX continuity, for example, you're supposed to be playing as this badass Maverick Hunter, but you're still instantly killed by spikes, that's kinda hilarious.

Like, X is supposed to be this badass Maverick Hunter, but spikes are his Kryptonite.

I'll say that everyone should play the way they enjoy the most. With that said, sorry but a "click on the arrow to progress the story" is not my definition of game. I loved To the Moon, though that's closer to watching a movie than playing a game. When I want to actually play I'll pull out Super Meat Boy and Hollow Knight ;) "Easy" is a good way to get started if anything!

I started playing games only very recently. And I have to remind my husband of this fact frequently (he has played video games since he was small 😹)
I usually have to say something like this:
β€œIf my heart rate is through the roof and my breathing is hard , I’m not having fun… I get that experience from daily life .” And… β€œif I’m gonna play a game, I’m fine with puzzles and strategies, but I am playing to relax, not be challenged.β€πŸ˜Ή
He gets it… most of the time 😹

I am 68b and have bought and played dozens of games for my Xbox X console. It is staggering how many games I get completely blocked a few percent into the game by a fight no matter how many times I try I cannot win - even on the easiest level. And I am articulate - I excel at Forza Horizon racing. They REALLY do not get it that 90% of what I paid for I cannot use because I am not 14 years old.

@buddhawilliams That's a good point! I'm still enough of a noob that I've only ever cured one zombie villager. Right now I'm working on my first-ever long distance railroad so I can get villagers safely to my base. I did it with boats once before, but that was a pain. An even bigger pain than hacking my way through forests & mountains to lay tracks! 😁

Currently playing God of War Ragnarok and it has 5 difficulty options:
- give me story
- give me grace
- give me balance
- give me no mercy (x)
- give me god of war

I consider difficult actions games a light motor-coordination activity and a test in patience and perseverance. It keeps the mind sharp and reactive. Plus the satisfaction of completing a challenging level/fight. Not 14, I'm well into my 30s.

But I totally get wanting to unwind on story mode.

I normally do normal (and not hard) but there are some games I'll just straight up cheat in because some mechanics are incredibly unfun.

I don't understand why so many want unfun mechanics. It's getting so bad some games literally require you to pee/poop in the game or you'll die. That's just freaking stupid. Who is playing a game and thinks "gee, I wish this game had a poop mechanic. I hate that it's so unrealistic that it doesn't force me to poop or die."

Their idea of realism isn't even realistic. I can go whole days without food/water and not die. I don't recommend it, but it's really not that bad on day one at least. In games you go a few hours of in-game time and your character is barely able to move anymore before death. That's not realistic and it's unfun.
