An adventure fantasy, taking place in the jungle in Colombia. Although a fantasy on paper, centred around a fictionalised tribe, this story has a lot of parallels with real geopolitical circumstances in the amazon, and the conflict between commerce, industrialisation, and spirituality that is harmonic with nature.

This story takes place in the Putumayo Departmento of Colombia which is very close to the border of Ecuador and Peru. This is why we see this kind of intersection of jungle spirituality and Andean mysticism. Putumayo means "burst of water" in Quechua.

I'm sure many people are familiar with the case against, what used to be Chevron, regarding the rights of indigenous peoples of the amazon, to have access to clean water, and US attorney Steven Donziger's attempts to fight for the indigenous people of Ecuador which won them a ruling from the Ecuadorian Supreme Court in 2013, and earned Donziger a punitive case against him, back in the US.

I will let people do their own research, but this film touches on a lot of these issues, without mentioning names.

It also touches on the Ayahuasca craze, without referencing spiritual tourists, but gives us a rare indigenous perspective and experience.

Some of the scenes are a hard watch, and yet considerably toned down, compared to the reality.

Basically, it's a very nice film, like an eighties adventure film, but a bit more subtle, and charming.

The mystical scenes are beautifully done, and not overdone.
