Someone asked what’s the difference between going into nature to take a naked photo and to connect with nature. My thinking on the subject is inspired by psychologist Carl Jung especially this thoughts in the book the Earth has a Soul and quotes like this
We must give time to nature so that she may be a mother to us. I have found the way to live here as part of nature, to live in my own time. People in the modern world are always living so that something better is to happen tomorrow, always in the future, so they don’t think to live their lives. They are up in the head. When a man begins to know himself, to discover the roots of his past in himself, it is a new way of life.”
The distinction really comes down to presence versus performance. Taking a photo is often an act of projection — living for an audience or a future moment, which Jung directly critiques as "living up in the head." True connection requires being entirely in the present, allowing nature to be a mother rather than a backdrop. When we strip away the need to document, we stop observing nature and finally start participating in it.
This feels so real to me in naturism online. Many naturists online have so bought into the personas of their favorite online naked content creators that they cant be bothered to hear the naked honest truth about them

When we explained that the sub was for ordinary people to post and share not naked content creators they accused us of being harsh and exclusionary almost demanding that we let them hijack our sub as they have done many times before with our work. As if they don't have many many outlets that will fall all over themselves for that stuff.
Mind you they have never once despite the fact we helped launched awareness their blog with an award many years ago, not once they have never once offered to promote our work or support or encourage in any way. They didn't ask about the values behind our approach nope. Just the same pattern of privileged self interest.
Seen this before years ago when they were happy to jump into a conversation about creating welcoming spaces in naturism and say they were ok confederate flags in naturist spaces as long as everyone in the location agreed.

So tired of this privileged elite clique of brand conscious naturist commodifiers who have taken the ordinary everyday working person out of naturism except to bend the knee to them and buy their self interested vision of naturism. They helped make up my mind about our future we will stand in the gap and fight for a different collective vision for naturism. Buffalo US WNBR canceled becuase of safety fears and community disapproval. I honestly think the emphasis on nudity by those who want to advocate for public nudity instead of protesting fossil fuels has helped to turn many communities agajnst World Naked Bike Rides - Think about how appropriate the fossil fuel focus would be in a US city if the focus hadn't been hijacked to promote public nakedness instead of environmental care.

It is important for naturists to curate our own communities away from corporate socials. The only leverage they have is the thought that they are the only game in town. But the technology exists to create and curate naturist communities that are not tethered to corporate social media but bridges to it. We are working to cut the corporate social umbilical cord while still interfacing using the tech available. It isnt perfect but we can control our own spaces rather than being tossed about and defined by the whims of the corpate social media that is increasingly a means of surveillance.
