in reply to MadaMada • • •the internal dependency #yggmail has some bugs that cause message drop/lost or delivery delays, but I am hyped with #tyr and hope the developer keeps improving it
this concept could even be expanded, making such an app an "universal bridge" providing that fake email server to #DeltaChat while then internally it is connecting to Telegram, WhatsApp, XMPP, etc. basically allowing you to use that networks with Delta Chat
3manuel reshared this.

On Desktop(Linux), if this goes through, could be an alternative for what I'm using right now, which is Yggmail + BetterBird

in reply to adb • • •another remaining problem is:
when you send an email from Delta Chat or other email apps to Tyr/yggmail server, it is delivered immediately to the local server, but you don't really know when the email will be actually delivered to the maybe offline peers
so it is really hard to use and relay on it if you never know if the other side received the message (until they open the chat and you see the read receipts in delta chat)

In the older version of Tyr the lag was noticable.. so something must have been fixed.. but I'm excited too to see how far Tyr will go..
adb
in reply to MadaMada • • •some of the issues are still open in the upstream yggmail repo, I don't think the fork of Tyr have solved all the problems yet, and I already tested Tyr some days ago, the day it got published in IzzyOnDroid, and messages were getting lost sometimes
looking at the repo there has been some more changes, but I doubt all the problems are solved, I am excited to see it being under active development tho, this basically convert DC in a p2p app

in reply to Lutin Discret • • •That's basically what Tyr does but it runs locally instead of remotely.
Tho it's possible to run chatmail over Yggdrasil, just that you'd have to modify the scripts and disable the SMTP/IMAP TLS stuff..
