Google Cloud Digital Leader: what changed in the August 2026 exam guide and how to prepare
The Cloud Digital Leader is Google Cloud's foundational certification. It is aimed at non-engineers as much as engineers: sales and account teams, product and project managers, business analysts and anyone who has to explain what Google Cloud and its AI products do for a business.
Exam format
- 50-60 multiple-choice and multiple-select questions in 90 minutes
- $99 USD, taken online or at a test centre
- Google does not publish a passing score; you simply get pass or fail
What the relaunched guide (12 August 2026) covers
- Digital transformation with Google Cloud (about 18%): why the cloud changes a business, IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, and what "agentic AI" means.
- Data transformation (about 18%): matching data products such as BigQuery, Looker and Pub/Sub to business use cases.
- Innovating with AI (about 18%): AI and ML fundamentals, business value of agents, the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (the old Vertex AI branding is gone) and AI Hypercomputer.
- Modernizing infrastructure and applications (about 18%): migration paths, compute options, containers, serverless and the value of APIs.
- Trust and security (about 18%): shared responsibility, Google's layered defence, LLM attacks and Model Armor, and digital sovereignty.
- Scaling with Google Cloud operations (about 10%): cost control, reliability and resilience basics.
How to study in two to three weeks
1. Read the official exam guide line by line and turn every bullet into a question you can answer in one sentence.
2. Learn products by business problem, not by feature list: "real-time events at scale" points to Pub/Sub, "petabyte analytics with SQL" to BigQuery, "dashboards for business users" to Looker.
3. Spend extra time on the new AI and security objectives - older courses and question banks written before August 2026 do not cover agentic AI or Model Armor.
4. Finish with timed 50-question practice sets and review every explanation, including the questions you got right.
