the only way recycling would work would be if new plastic was more expensive than the recycled plastic FOR THE MANUFACTURER. Consumers have no power to change corporations because corporations control the market.
I have to be That Guy and point out that glass, paper, metal, and battery recycling are all very Good and Necessary, and it's just plastic we need to boot into the sun.
It's perfectly chemically feasible. This idea that it's not is new and counter-propaganda. But it needs billions invested in it. Same as everything else that ever actually has gotten up.
Ok, but the positive part is that it indeed recycles some of this shit. Recycling this shit is materialized in collective consciousness and infrastructures. That's part of a decent start after all, even if it initially involves the exploitation of exploiting entities themselves.
@franebleu no, it's supporting false narrative that the consumer is at fault for plastic pollution. Plastic should not be used for disposables, but that's not the message big oil wants you to think about.
@virtualwolf only about 3% of plastic is recycled at all. That means the plastic you put in recycling bins is driven to a sorting facility, sorted by hands and machines, then transported to landfill. It’s actually easier on the environment if you just throw it away >_<
