And our last question this week:

Q8. What did you see this week? Reply with a photo if you'd like. Cycling related or not is fine. Tell us about it!

#bikenite A8 saw a lot of rain at times, 39mm on Thursday! But also got out for some rides, last Sunday saw a mob of roos in Jells Park , they'd come up towards the picnic ground in the dark cloudy weather

A8. Bwahaha, I’ve been waiting for this all week. The $7 swirl cone, which mysteriously cost exactly the amount of cash I had in my bike bags (including four quarters dating back to the times when you needed change for a pay phone).

This has always been “emergency money.” I declared an emergency. It was, in fact, an excellent ice cream cone. #bikenite

A8: I’ve been looking forward to sharing this video clip with all of you.
I’m getting ready for a long ride, so I’m increasing my mileage this month. Yesterday I came across this large turtle by the side of the trail—she was laying eggs!

@moira On the return trip I wondered if she’d still be there, but all I saw was a large patch of turned-over dirt. Upon closer inspection I was horrified to find the eggs were mostly exposed. I figured if an animal dug them up, they would have eaten them, right?
Could turtle mom have been very inexperienced and did a horrible job laying her eggs?

A8: it's LEGO time. Lego finally made a decent bicycle set!!! Not really in shops here so I bought it online (from a shop that has physical outlets), and put it together after work yesterday.

Also, by Lego standards it's *huge*. Biggest Lego wheels ever. #BikeNite

in reply to Cainmark Does Not Comply 🚲

@cainmark FWIW this is a bit of an adult set, lots of small fiddly parts and while it's surprisingly robust given how limited the attachments holding it together are it's not really a toy.

Also, per much modern Lego, unless you have quite a lot of other Lego it's not great as a source of parts. Fortunately "not much other Lego" is not one of my disadvantages 😀

#BikeNite A8. I saw nothing cycling-related this week worth noting. I did binge-watch Season 2 of "Citadel", followed by all 5 seasons of "The Boys", and I hit the local thrift shops and bought some DVDs, books, and vintage kitchenware and an old Sony clock radio.

A8. I’ve brought you a few photos I took today.
Actually, I only wanted to get to the city library, but afterwards I felt like cycling through the woods for a bit.
On the way, I was able to buy fresh strawberries straight from the field.
I almost felt like following the first to go skinny-dipping in the lake.
Then I came to the site of a synchrotron. This is where the isotope 110 Ds (Darmstadtium) was first detected over 30 years ago.
And finally, how about a beer?

#BikeNite A8: I saw something here in #ywg I never thought I’d see: Another cyclist riding an Auto-Mini folding bike! Here I thought I was the only one in town.
in reply to Power Word: Shaddap!

@powerword My bike has butterfly (full circular) handlebars, I call them the Tour de France '92 bars. Ride in a major city, never seen them for 15+ years until the other day. Did a U turn, chased the guy down to chat about how great they are. He laughed and said yeah I never use them (to lean forearms on and hook thumbs around), my wife installed them for me, bc she thinks they are great!
To be fair, they do put the hands a little far from the brakes, just stay alert (≧▽≦)

A8. Lots of office commutes this week with my teen, who is doing an internship in the same building I work in. One morning this week, we discovered a huge construction pit in the bike lane, formerly covered by a metal plate. It was scary bad - hard to spot, hard to avoid. Reported it and it was fixed that same day. #BikeNite

#bikenite A8, I am signed up for the Dead Swede 100 mile (161km) gravel race course tomorrow in Sheridan Wyoming. Here a photo of the Big Horn Mountains from the opening set of hill climbs.

#BikeNiteA A8 This week I was bummed because a bike rally conflicted with a prior commitment. When I left the event and got on my bike to go home... A rally of inline skaters rolled on by, about a hundred of them! I tailed along behind and it felt really nice to see the city in action like that 😁✨

A8: Went out for a ride to the west of York last Sunday, as far as Boston Spa. There was quite a strong westerly wind, so I wound up heading back to Tadcaster along the A659 at a very good rate of knots (average 20mph along that stretch!) and a total distance of around 25 miles. Managed to remember to get a photo of the bike by Askham Bryan duck pond! 😁🦆🦆

A8: this week I installed that double seat post clamp that someone posted on here a while back.
Not as nice looking as the Hope one I had before but hopefully it fixes my issue with the seat post sliding down

@oheso
😀 It's a special bridge

For those who do not recognize

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifton_…

It crosses the Avon Gorge in Clifton, Bristol. It was designed by one of UK's most famous Engineers of the time; Isambard Kingdom Brunel

I tend to find Clifton is hard to avoid in that part of the world - but that's probably because of my usual destinations

A8. If you look on my timeline, you can see a photo of bicycle wheel lighting at one of Tirana's best LBSes. So as not to repeat myself, here's a building nearby.

When there are not enough cycle racks yet a non-zero chance that someone might steal your ride, you lock up where you can.

A8. The annual Vélo Canada Bikes Pedal Poll is happening now across Canada. The intent is to count people as they move around their regions using methods other than cars. I counted 403 people over two hours while sitting on a bench on the Iron Horse Trail near Victoria Street in Kitchener, Ontario. They were walking, riding bikes, riding e-bikes, riding e-scooters, and more. 😀🚴‍♀️❤️

A8. We rode out to a tree to pick up some plums. They were delicious. I made some gelato out of the ones we didn’t snack on.
