Departed in Youth.

Kapunda Cemetery, Kapunda, South Australia.

Kapunda is home to two primary historical cemeteries: the Kapunda Cemetery (the main town cemetery) and the St John’s Catholic Cemetery, which is located a few kilometres outside of town and carries a more somber, legendary history.

Kapunda Cemetery serves as a record of the pioneers who built the copper mining town.

A black and white photograph highlighting a single white marble headstone dedicated to William Shakeshaft, who departed this life in 1889 at the age of 32. A carved rose relief adorns the arched top of the stone. Strong sunlight casts a dark, crisp shadow across the dry, stony ground to the left. A simple low fence rail and stone post stand next to the grave. A watermark reading 'Gardens of the Silent' is in the top left corner.
