I hadn’t heard the term schizotypal before, so I looked it up. The definition sounds like a 3rd grader trying to make excuses for being mean to the new kid and pinching them in the lunch line. “But Teacher, they’re weird!”
Or like any garden variety bigot defending their bad behavior.

So, that's in the cluster A of personality disorders....
There is a whoooooole bunch of internal debate in mental health about personality disorders because they're mostly behavior patterns rather than actual mental distress.
Aside from cluster B, which can be varying degrees of antagonistic to other people, "personality disorders" are mostly harmless. And technically, they should only be diagnosed if they're causing the individual distress.

If you are experiencing distress about social interactions, you can focus on making adjustments in those specific areas.
But like, otherwise, I think of Schizotypal as the Luna Lovegood diagnosis. And I actually quite love Luna. She doesn't need to be forced to change for other people's comfort.

Thanks. I very consciously curate my social connection because they require a lot of energy from me, but beyond that, I'm good. Just not, hmm, easy, for everyone.
I like the list of fictional characters who are schizotypal. It contains Lilo (from Lilo and Stitch), Doc Brown from back to the future, and yes, I can see Luna Lovegood joining in. It's a good group. 😎

Sounds like a fun lot to me!
Mental health should be about finding ways to alleviate personal distress. If it's not that, don't worry about it.
Most of the time, the social interaction piece is about good communication and finding healthy means of reciprocation and balance. Not conformity (IMO).
As long as those things are comfortable to navigate, you do you.

Social interactions are a mixed bag. Coworkers might require more conforming, while friends are indeed more of a reciprocation dance.
Is it strange that I respect my personal distress? I value the full spectrum of my emotions. It feels like an insult to existence and consciousness not to. Even if that does require a lot from me, I wouldn't want to numb that. That is precisely me, being me.

The way I see it, personal distress is your brain and body sending you messages about what things are important to you.
Listening to the full spectrum of emotions is how you get the message and make intentional decisions.
And yeah, I feel like a lot of my adult responsibilities involve some conforming, but it matters that you have solid friends where it's safe to be yourself.
Sounds to me like you're on it!

The same often happens with me, with neurotypical piepst seemingly incapable of understanding what I am saying, and saying that I mean what I do not.

Oh, yes, being a woman and neurospicy, with some folks, it seems 80% of what I say is bleeped out and replaced with assumptions. I'll be explaining something very specific, relevant, and crucial, and get a response like. "Yeah, bananas are nice."
