#ChatControl 1.0 HAS PASSED - despite a majority voting against it (314:276) 🚨

After the EU parliament has rejected it TWICE in the past, it has been pushed as an urgent procedure for a new plenary vote. The EU has simply continued to put the vote on the agenda to get the outcome they've wanted since the start.

This is not democratic‼️

I used live in Malta. Abortion there is forbidden by law.
there are many girls or women forced to cross the sea, reach Sicily and make an abortion there. Bad to know, bad to do.

They declare Malta as Repubblic, but to me it is a Theocracy (based on Cristian). Church influences Gov more than Vatican in Italy.

this vote was pushed through as "urgent procedure" by the EU Council, the EPP and the Parliament president (which is part of EPP) on Tuesday, and since the request for this second reading passed an absolute majority was needed to stop it today

the last time we voted for chat control it was rejected 311:228 so it was almost the same this time (314:276), it only wasn't enough because it was framed as "urgent" to enable the second reading and require the absolute majority

democracy at its finest /s :neocat_shocked:

So the whole push to switch from US tech to EU tech was a lie to just allow the powers-that-be gain more info and data upon a global level.
#EU are traitors to the people. Not surprised. They don’t care about anyone same as US. They just kindness-wash the people to make you think they are different than the likes of the other horrible political folk.

@burnoutqueen @racingdaily I'm fairly sure the remilitarisation noises in Germany were mainly triggered by the constant threats from Russia and the straw that broke the camel's back was the Trumpist US being impossible to rely on for anything. Look at the major politicians in Germany, none of them, certainly not the ones in government, is firmer than a wet noodle. Hardly a sign of any "reichification".

314 against. And 276 for.

But an absolute majority of 361 was needed to turn the proposal down.

@QuantumAspect avoid any chat from big tech.

Namely : Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta, etc.

As they will be the first scan you message and let a "bug" allowing their AI to be trained on this.

If possible use Decentralised chat (like @delta @simplex), that are harder to force to to this as even if they stop to develop it the network continue to work.

Be warry of any US based company (i think mostly of @signalapp that use Big tech hyperscaler that can be pressured) or @telegram that simply have no encryption at all.

Deltachat doesn't implement Sealed Sender and Forward Secrecy. This means leaking metadata and breaking one session could compromise all of communication.

SimpleX is popular amongst nazis and its last post at the moment of writing is a Web3 talk about monetizing privacy.

How pressuring Signal would work on it's encryption?

Edit: better focus on Signal's fork, Molly.

@dzwiedziu @QuantumAspect @delta @simplex @signalapp Forward secrecy is only usefull if you have disapearing message, also molly also use the same server as signal, so if signal break molly follow.

Also Forward secrecy will be enabled when they update Autocrypt 2 very soon.

For sealed sender they planned to have it once autocrypt is up.

in reply to SkyBlitz

@skyblitz
> Forward secrecy is only usefull if you have disapearing message

Why? Lack of FS is about compromising keys that can be reused for past and future communications.
Disappearing messages matter most against device seizure.

Molly is writing their own server. Still that does not answer how Signal can be pressured.

As for Autocrypt 2 we will see when it materializes.

Witch make them as useless as session, because signal will not follow them ..., and like you said for autocrypt, it does not matter until it's live.

So as of today no to molly in my recommendation.

This authoritarian EU bears no resemblance to its founding vision. As an EU citizen, I can only view the perversity of these corrupt policies with alarm and draw my own conclusions. "Chat Control 2.0" will likely become reality sooner than we fear.

We must fight even harder and stand united against this corruption.

What a joke. European “democracy” at its finest: just push your agenda until they eventually accept it (and not even that, since a relative majority voted against, just not an absolute one).

And yet they’ll pull a shocked Pikachu face when they see Euroscepticism is on the rise. Because that’s what will happen if you push away your remaining supporters with these anti-democratic measures.

so am i getting this 2 points right?

- Chatcontrol 1.0 never had a vote in parliement where a majority of MEP (the democratically elected representants of the EU population) voted in favor
- It was then pushed in a way that unless an ABSOLUTE majority of MEP voted against it would become law

because if that's right that shows a structural problem in the EU even bigger than Chatcontrol itself: the idea that laws can be made by bypassing the democratic process

Real sorry to see the fascist infection is apparently fully west European in derivation; but have to admit, it is unsurprising. May the head of the snake be fully severed this time around this mess. It will clearly be the long-way around and may that serve a memorable lesson as well.

/US-ian unhappily witnessing all now wonders just who gets that $1.4T, eh?

That man has enough money to end world hunger, but he would rather prey on children for more profit. He should be taxed. The EU just fined Zuck $1.4 trillion. I took that as a good sign. But this? This is very very bad. He pushes authoritarian algorithms. There's no oversight. He just does what he wants and then pays fines. He destroys democracies. He was at Trump's inauguration. He's a fascist!!!!!!!

#RobertaMetsola, a conservative catholic, loaded, with a lobbyist husband, sucking up to weird billionaire tech bros who've been financing the white supremacist regime in the WH, is just another asshole to be boycotted!

All ultra-conservative religious fools have the same rapist vibe, forcing their will on others—whom they deem inferior—who clearly and repeatedly have said NO.

How people interpret this ain't my problem...

- I merely exercise my inalienable #HumanRights to #privacy!!!

The problem with Democracy is that it doesn't pay politicians as well as the Oligarchs do.

The Oligarchs need to dial in just enough monitary "free speech" to get their social control bills passed. Sometimes that takes a few payment rounds.

After all, Capitalism is not democratic in any way. And extreme wealth inequality will only guarantee an end to democracy.

Winner takes all.

shaking hands with a man whose algorithms have been deliberately tuned to ensnare children, and reviving chat control which isn't about protecting children, it's about giving a company like say 'Meta' the keys to age verification and mass surveillance of every single person in the EU, except those in positions of power who get to maintain their anonymity... because 'they're unlikely to be predators, or are likely'???. Smells of corruption, the EU is starting to stink of hypocrisy

let us remember this when we try to point to anti democratic behavior as an American problem. It is not. All over Europe we've been seeing serious fracturing of democracy in the past years, and this is a particularly brazen example. Pointing to US authoritarian behavior is just a way for European politicians to distract from their own. They just come in different flavors.
in reply to Tuta

Right, that's it.

I will order a couple of PinePhones for our junior family members.

I am not quite sure how chat control and client side scanning could be implemented on these devices.

A PinePhone works with just a local account so all images can be stored locally on the device.

qTox runs on a PinePhone, Wire in a web browser. Not sure if the developers of those programs will implement client side scanning of chats.

I assume that the mobian developers would not bend the knee.

in reply to Tuta

but this can be easily overturned. #chatControl has been rejected on two previous occasions and MEPs have received death threats to accept it on the third vote. The pathetic #farLeft #feminist Roberta #Metsola will face prosecution.

fightchatcontrol.eu/ contact your MEP here - to protest this ridiculous vote, but also to ask them to oppose Chat Control 2.0 which begins debate in September and would make this permanent (vsn 1.0 runs to 2028).
in reply to Tuta

This is only the first step #Europe needs to stifle its own citizens!

After losing your right of free speech by basically implementing #chatcontrol people will not feel open to speak freely online #observereffect

Then they will implement a thing called #prebunking and actively start #censorship your chats, or #shadowban your conversation without you knowing.

They will implemend a #cbdc #euro and follow every monetary transaction, they will map your entire life!

When you become a problem to #Europe #dictatorship they can freeze all your assets *without* a legal court order, under the council regulation (EU) 2024/2642 ( October 8 2024) ask former retired Swiss colonel #JacquesBaud

You're unable to chat, unable to travel, unable to afford housing, unable to buy food.

They can basically erase your excistence from society with a click of a button!

You will own nothing and be happy!
