I'm so fucking sick of these attacks on human rights.

I propose the following course of action:

We pick a specific target and trash its value.
- Do whatever we can to make it lose money, customers, resources, employees, reputation.
- Do our best to make it toxic waste that investors won't touch.
- We make it easy for anyone to join the carnage.
- We keep hammering it until it dies or we get protections

Then we collectively pick another target and do it again.

And again.

Until the dying screams of US corporations reach the ears of those with the power to call off the attacks on women, minorities, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, and everyone else this administration is going after.

When they stop, we stop, negotiate, and stand ready to start again if they don't follow through.

I suggest Tesla be the first to burn.

iโ€™m wanting to hear more about fun things, like stink bombs in apple and target storesโ€ฆ every day. that would be fun to hear about in the news. just horrid smells driving shoppers outโ€ฆ

maybe rotate seven? one day for each of the week? mondays postcard campaign to the office of microsoft?, tuesdays dog poo set on fire in front of disney stores, etc.?

UK as well (cops seized one just a few weeks ago). Tesla Model 3/X/Y are now finding their way into the hands of "bro-types" who previously got used BMWs and drove them badly, which means they are already getting a bad reputation over here (one was involved in a fail to stop collision round my way recently)

I would urge caution to people going into malls to protest Tesla. Malls are "public" spaces but they're really private businesses, they have every right to throw you out or worse, prosecute (disclaimer: not a lawyer). Protest where you can be in a truly public space.

@melioristicmarie historically, this has actually worked incredibly well. The civil rights movement targeted Woolworths and unions targeted GM. The rest of the industry just did whatever once the first company caved. This strategy has a proven track record of winning.

good choice, especially since it's been tanking the last couple days, and we all know why he wants the consumer protection gutted, because Teslas are crap and he doesn't want to pay to actually FIX the problem. (As far as his popularity, nothing can fix his total lack of redeeming factors and just how much of an infantile douche he truly is)
in reply to Pooka๐ŸธBoo ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿซต

One could consider large scale tolerance of for-profit corporations to already be a form of attack on society.

Needless to say the sheer collateral resulting from it has been disastrous.

in reply to LisPi

@lispi314 I get what you're saying, but the implications of industrialization were not well considered at the time...
in reply to Pooka๐ŸธBoo ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿซต

Potential agreement or disagrement based on what is meant there.

In objective terms the implications were indeed not fully analyzed in any real way.

In of widespread technological proliferation, it wasn't well considered but it was still a positive thing.

In terms of all the awfulness that was disregarded as inconsequential exernalities, I think that while some were not considered, some were very much considered and either gleefully ignored or actively made worse (even when that made the positive aspects of technological adoption much lesser).

in reply to ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ด (๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿฆ„)

Following your strategy - don't pick the biggest target as your first target. Pick one that you know you can win. Winning builds momentum. We need the power to take on bigger targets.

@Hex @melioristicmarie YES! My mom and grandma were alongside other Blacks and Latinos picketing in front of Woolworths,Kress, Bullock's/Bullock's Wilshire and Robinson's in the early and mid 1960's in Los Angeles: those stores did not hire Black and Latino employees for the sales floor and restaurant. And they didn't want Blacks and Latinos shopping there. We're going to have to go BACK to 1962 and 1963 in order to fight these assholes.

Well, some people respond to social pressure, or even perceived social pressure.

There are people for whom an airtight rational argument will barely nudge the needle, while being repeatedly reminded of what The Joneses might think of them could still make a difference.

(Not that this is simple to implement, but I'm thinking something like a single-page PDF that draws the connection in both large text and small, with a web site URL and QR code for more info & the original PDF. I can provide the web site and some of the information.)

I just checked privately owned EVs for sale over here

Looks like there are twice as many trying to get rid of their teslas across the nation, compared to number two on the list (VW). And three times as many as number three (BMW).

I like the ambition and taking the bull by the horns, first things first. I hope you're right. Either way, I would join you. So then the question is when the campaign starts. So that there's a clear beginning date that people can channel their energy into and that will make the collective effort felt and noticed.

I love car sharing! I have several friends using this instead of owning. It's made it possible for them to finance a home instead of renting forever!

I also know a family who need their own car, but they usually make it available thru public car sharing during weekends. It's paid off long ago, so it's more like a " social footprint thing" for them

That's a 12-13 year old Tesla btw. There were no other family EVs back then, so Tesla was the only way they could stop funding "Big Oil"....

iโ€™d love it of we went mass transit with a smattering of collective ownership (car share) for the edge cases. thatโ€™s my long game.

anything that gets a single auto driver to consider a lifestyle switch that can be a prosocial + prospecies survival sort of thing iโ€™m kinda up for. the more localized the solution the better. what works for one family can be the only use case. thatโ€™s the beauty of local focusโ€ฆ how can you get one less vehicle off the road? do that. : )

Great point. I thought to make the same point, but you beat me to the punch. I have a friend & colleague (a fellow electrical design engineer). He bought one a few years ago. I ask him about his experience regularly after reading something technically bad about these cars. He's very happy with it. We are in the Chicago area, where the cold can be challenging at times. He reports no issues. So, I understand where you're coming from. Musk should face anger crowds, incessantly...

Again, it's perfectly OK to target Musk himself with angry crowds. Too bad we don't have any billionaires paying people to do this the way the christo-fascists do. This also tells people a lot about the sociopathy and hoarding money disorder in the 100 millionaire plus community. No human should be worth that kind of money. Assets should be deflated. And, a wealth line should exist akin to the poverty line. Nobody goes below poverty, and nobody goes above wealth.

R'amen! I remember just putting a small Biden/Harris sticker on my car in 2020 and got people flipping me off and screaming pro-Trump slogans at me while driving, getting honked at in parking lots from idiots with the huge Trump flags in the bed... and one night I had one of those big trucks practically on my bumper on a dark stretch of road while heading home from work.

Only had it 3 weeks. I wanted SO badly to put a Harris yard sign in my yard for 2024, but I don't have the money to maintain, let alone repair, anything that's damaged if someone objected. I am a blue dot in a county so red that many local positions have been unopposed on the ballot for over 20 years. Many flag-waving Trumpers around here. Sucks. My pro-science and nerdy bumper stickers get me plenty of side-eyes as it is.

@jarjan @punissuer @lednaBM yes I think the point has been made that the people that bought these cars did so at a time when Elon Musk seemed to be carrying a banner for solar panels, electric cars and renewables. So they canโ€™t really be held to blame for the fact that he seems to be now an unrepentant fascist.

@jarjan I have learned that what we have been calling a swastika, is actually a hakenkreuz...a reversed swastika. If 'hakenkreuzauto' was printed on a magnetic sheet (the kind used for calendars for fridges), it could be easily removed. Also, a poster cardboard label could be stuck on a car with masking tape - the kind used when you paint decals on cars. @peterbrown @alice @punissuer @lednaBM@stranger.social
