Marilyn stands beside the broken sign
and ponders why she feels inadequate
to analyze complex state of affairs
entangling human hearts in fantasy
of perfect paradise we dream is real,
then crosses the street when the light turns green.
Ten thousand airplanes scream across the sky,
bearing wingless angels to paradise
instead of dropping bombs on palaces
where pompous kings cling to false divine right
as their empires dissolve to words of trust
scrawled on documents in museum cases.
With fingers graceful as ballet-lithe girls
Marilyn enters numbers in spreadsheets
to analyze trends of profit and loss
displayed as charts that measure social worth,
compiled from stream of data into psalms
that angels sing in cathedral of ghosts.
Ten horses gallop in the dew-wet field
beside the highway full of speeding cars
driven by angels lost in paradise
who chase quick butterfly of happiness
beyond the far horizon of desire
where Sibyl prophesies how empires fall.
Marilyn eats turkey sandwich on rye
at small round table in the mall food court
where people shop for utensils and clothes
stuck on endless merry-go-round of wealth,
then rides elevator to the nineth floor
where she strides past the glass doors of success.
When Superman completes mission from God
to stop aggressive warplanes of the king
from bombing villages in Scythia,
he flies to city by the shining sea
and floats by window of accounting firm
where Marilyn waves and blows him a kiss.
Riding the bus home in dark evening rain,
Marilyn ponders the meaning of life
that unwinds random journey of her fate
based on decisions she makes without thought,
then opens front door of her mortgaged home
where Superman watches golf on the couch.
Marilyn takes photos with her eye-phone
of her daughter Wednesday in black lace dress
who goes trick or treat on Halloween night,
till pumpkin transforms to Carriage of Hope,
which they ride with sweet Emily and Death,
pulled by swift horses of Eternity.

Orpheus gives young Wednesday Three Musketeers candy bars when she knocks on door of his house because no airplanes of nationalism bomb their town.
