Hello friends,

It has been a busy time here! We celebrated both our birthdays in March, Diana’s mom and stepdad visited for a week, and we got our BSN number finally a couple of weeks ago! Most of the birthday festivities were full of good food (we are Lodman’s and Kichler’s, naturally) and low key days. We got to be tourists for a few days as we explored more of The Hague and Amsterdam with Judy and Steve.

We also went to Paris for a long weekend to celebrate, which was a short 3 hour train ride (when it worked, which it did not on our way home), for a change of scenery and food! We also got to catch up with a friend who met us there, so it was a nice trip. We enjoyed the spring weather and walked and ate a lot.

With the arrival of our BSN number, we were also able to sign up for health care, which they require you to do within the first 4 months of you living here. There are several companies to choose from, and different pay scales to work with that provide a range of coverage. Based on how much you want to pay for your monthly bill, the out of pocket costs scale from about €300-€1,000, but you will never pay more than that within the year. You also get to pick the type of services you think are necessary that year, for example, physical therapy to include in your package. We know that you have a primary care doctor who is your advocate and connects you to other services, working as your central hub, but we haven’t seen it in action yet.
