Thats a joy to read, been using it since dawn, it's good software. You have no idea how frustrating job interviews were because bill gates pushed the ECDL down our throat and it seemed like Excel, Access, Word were the only things that were valuable knowledge.

Just downloaded LibreOffice yesterday. Looking forward to using it and having peace of mind at the same time!
in reply to LibreOffice

@aquarianoak1 I started using it a couple months ago and am impressed with how smoothly it works. I'm recommending it to other writer friends.
2 features I would *like* to see in the word processor: embedding links in words; a comments mode.
in reply to AskPippa🇨🇦

@AskPippa Glad you like it! For the features you meant, you can already turn words into links by selecting them and then Insert > Hyperlink. What do you mean by "comments mode"? You can add comments to sections of text too.

@aquarianoak1
I hope your experience is as great as mine has been.

If you ever run into a problem, their help forum is great. The folks there are very friendly and knowledgeable.

I just installed LibreOffice the other day! As ridiculous as it is, it's a pain to set a custom font in Google and Microsoft's line of products so I decided to give your software a spin and it is amazing! Thank you!

More than 12 years have passed since our city switched from MS Office to LibreOffice. We are glad to have more friends in the OSS world 😉

Kuki city, Japan! Here's the news article about it (sorry it's written in Japanese): xtech.nikkei.com/it/article/NE…

I love Libre Office. I used it for a bit when I was still a Mac person, and after switching full time to Linux with Linux Mint, I then used it with my job almost every day for six years.

I found building tools in LO Calc was significantly easier than Excel.

Congrats #schleswigholstein for making the right choice!

One other point I'd like to make is that, given the current political and Wall Street climate in the U.S., the EU's response through passing the ACI, etc., I think breaking and eliminating dependence upon Microsoft and, in practice, any other American tech corporation, is in national, state, and even city-level security and economic interest.

I think adopting LibreOffice is a good first step, but you also need to switch to Linux, and Germany's own SUSE is an excellent choice.

You're right, I didn't see the bit about "Linux and..." My bad.
in reply to Quark Maker

@QuarkMaker How well does calc compare to Excel? Because I heard that it was still quite limited, especially if you start using formulas or code. Also, what are the issues that made you want to look away from MS?
Finally, you say you use Linux? is that necessary? What advantage does it provide? And where do you recommend I could start?
in reply to Marco DS

@marco_ds @QuarkMaker

I can't speak to the Calc vs Excel issue, but you don't need to run Linux.

I've been running Linux Mint for nearly 3 years and LibreOffice as my office suite for about 8. Linux is a more secure system and doesn't constantly spy on you like MS Windows does. I use Linux daily and it's been a breeze.

Also, both have better support forums than their MS counterparts.

@James_Steinhaus Text-to-speech is normally a feature provided by your operating system on a global base, and not individual apps. What operating system are you using?
in reply to LibreOffice

Man looking at this picture, I would not have been surprised if it had been taken 15 years ago.
in reply to LibreOffice

will they have normal toolbar icons or these eye cracking default?
in reply to LibreOffice

Is this available for mobile android devices, I really want to move away from Microsoft Office, I really hate the constant updates that frequently hamper my work, also unnecessary things that keep slowing down my mobile and take up memory.
in reply to LibreOffice

Excellent news! Drives me nuts when gov't agencies unashamedly require proprietary software to access their services.

Now we need to get them all off of the corporate social media habit.

Hopefully someone in government gets that THIS is an answer to US tariffs. Finding (and implementing) free and open alternatives to the money milking machines from overseas hits US economy where it hurts.

@James_Steinhaus Ah, understood. We have very limited resources so we focus on the core office suite components, but you could consider funding a developer to work on this, so that all users benefit: documentfoundation.org/certifi… – Thank you!

A good step! Let's hope that other administrative applications follow suit and set an example. 💪

@EUCommission #EUCommission
How much expenditure could be reduced if the European Union decided that administrations should primarily use free software? Only if unavoidable, in individual cases, should the public administration be dependent on expensive, commercial license products. In almost all cases, this is old-fashioned, unnecessary and outdated. #publicmoney

Best message for this weeek 👍

Because over time i had replaced all proprietary Windows software i used with open source multi-platform software like LibreOffice, moving to Linux recently went like a breeze. Thanks for giving me the freedom of choice for my OS.

curious to see what they’ll be using for email and calendar client and also on the server side of things.
in reply to Niels Roetert

#Thunderbird and its calendar works fine for me as a client.

#postfix also works fine as a #smtp server.

I don't think moving away from microsoft will hurt at all 😃

in reply to LibreOffice

It's not enough, they ought to also move from Windows to #Linux or #BSD !
