Update to my little moment over the weekend.
To no one's surprise, the x-ray today confirmed a spiral fracture of the middle finger metacarpal. A somewhat classic result of going down like a sack of shit, in a barely lit and pothole infested yard. Although, it was slightly surprising to me that the fracture was much nearer the wrist than where the pain in my hand seemed to suggest, which was basically the knuckle area. The bone doctor will phone me tomorrow in the wonderfully useful window of "somewhere between 9am and 5pm".
In so many ways, you have to love the NHS. Two consultations, an x-ray and treatment and all for the princely sum of, bugger all. (Sorry for rubbing it in, my American friends). The staff, as usual, were friendly, helpful and thoroughly professional. But, once you start going up the food chain to the consultants and specialists, that's when things can infuriate me. There is such a wonderful assumption that everyone lives in a world where they have no other commitments, time requirements or life and work needs that are outside of the purely 9 to 5. It is a disconnect and so often gives rise to inconvenience, sacrifice and an upsetting of my world that is far out of proportion to the ten minutes of actually talking to someone that is most often all you get. And people wonder why I normally try and avoid this sort of thing.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery! ๐ธ

Which is good, because when I was self-employed, as a driving instructor, I looked into getting insurance for if I couldn't work. Once the broker had finished laughing, he explained that it put me into the top most risk category, alongside deep sea divers and fishermen. Let's just say the premiums were, eye watering.
And yes, it's amazing how much harder even everyday things are made by only having one good hand. Like who designed blister packs for pills that require two hands to even begin to get the damn things out> thankfully the pains not that bad, as long as I don't try and do anything with the broken one.

Basically a hello from the fracture dept. I did get a sick note out of them and found out that physio is in my future, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
