A perfect Rwanda Safari needs the right sequence, nights, and activities planned around wildlife rhythms.
Day 1: Arrive Kigali and Genocide Memorial
Your driver meets you at Kigali Airport before an afternoon Genocide Memorial visit. This gives your Rwanda Safari essential historical context for understanding contemporary Rwanda.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes and Afternoon Briefing
After a craft market morning, drive north to Volcanoes National Park for permit briefing. Your Rwanda Safari highland chapter begins as the volcanic landscape closes around you.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking and Dian Fossey Centre
Trek golden monkeys through bamboo forest, then visit the Dian Fossey Research Centre. This gives your Rwanda Safari gorilla conservation story essential depth and meaning.
Day 5: Drive to Akagera National Park
Drive east through Kigali to Akagera for an afternoon game drive among lions and giraffes. Your Rwanda Safari transforms from highland forest to open savanna in one travel day.
Day 6: Full Day Akagera Game Drives and Departure

Best Time for this Rwanda Safari Itinerary
June to September gives every day of this Rwanda Safari the driest, most rewarding conditions. Gorilla trails are manageable and Akagera game viewing is strongest during these months.
Health and Safety on this Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Yellow fever vaccination is required for Rwanda entry, and malaria prophylaxis suits Akagera days. Never trek gorillas if unwell, and carry comprehensive medical evacuation insurance.
