This book was recommended to me by so many people. I purchased a copy last year but didn’t make the time to read it. While reading Mansoor Khan’s “The third curve“, I noticed that he has mentioned this book in his list of recommendations. That was the “last straw” for me to pick up this brilliant book, which I managed to finish it in 3 days.

Una nuova generazione di baristi, caffetterie e torrefazioni è finalmente arrivata anche in Italia, la patria dell’espresso e delle macchine del caffè. Evoluti nel creare gioielli di rara tecnologia, ma non nell’estrarre e degustare questa meravigliosa bevanda, un paradosso.

La prima macchina per il caffè espresso fu brevettata dal torinese Angelo Moriondo il 16 maggio 1884, presentata all’Esposizione Generale di Torino. Si trattava di un dispositivo a vapore, costituito da una caldaia in ottone verticale, capace di preparare grandi quantità di caffè rapidamente, sebbene Moriondo non ne abbia mai avviato la produzione industriale.

Il merito della commercializzazione e industrializzazione spetta al milanese Luigi Bezzera, che nel 1901 brevettò un’evoluzione del sistema e vendette il brevetto a Desiderio Pavoni. My name is Yohanna, and I wanted to take a minute to share with you what I've been seeing here on the ground in Venezuela.

Since the earthquakes struck, I've been travelling to shelters and affected communities to understand what people need most right now. The destruction is truly overwhelming, and every day I meet families who have lost everything.

These assessments I carry out help us make sure the right kind of support reaches the right people at the right time. When coordinating a humanitarian response, it is essential to listen to the people themselves; they are the ones who know what they need.
Damage following the Earthquake in Venezuela
I also focus on something that is often overlooked during emergencies: making sure people with disabilities are not left behind.

Many emergency shelters are difficult — or even impossible — for someone using a wheelchair, crutches, or a walker to navigate. Bathrooms are inaccessible, entrances are blocked, and the constant noise creates additional challenges for people with sensory or intellectual disabilities.

In the chaos of the earthquakes, many people even lost the mobility aids they depend on every day. There is a great deal of work to be done to make these shelters actual inclusive safe havens for everyone.

Today, we are one of the only organisations present in Venezuela with expertise in emergency physical and functional rehabilitation. In hospitals and affected communities alike, complex fractures, trauma, and amputations mean thousands of people will need specialist support to regain their mobility and independence. Our team is identifying these barriers and providing mobility aids, rehabilitation services, mental health support, and practical solutions that help everyone access safety and assistance.

We know that recovery looks different for each person, and that many families won't be able to return home anytime soon, so we're working to ensure our response is inclusive and sustainable from the very beginning.

Istanbul offre un panorama spirituale di grande profondità, caratterizzato dalla convergenza del patrimonio islamico, cristiano ed ebraico, oltre che dal misticismo sufi. La città funge da fulcro della storia religiosa, ospitando contemporaneamente luoghi significativi per diverse fedi.
La spiritualità islamica trova il suo fulcro in moschee monumentali come la Basilica di Santa Sofia e la Moschea Blu, oltre che in santuari sacri (türbes) quali la Moschea di Eyüp Sultan, che custodisce la tomba di un compagno del Profeta Maometto. Le tradizioni sufi rimangono vivaci, in particolare attraverso i dervisci rotanti (Ordine Mevlevi); i visitatori possono assistere alla cerimonia del Sema in luoghi storici come il Museo della Casa dei Mevlevi di Galata, che rappresenta un percorso di ascesa spirituale.

Il patrimonio cristiano è profondamente radicato nell’identità della città, in quanto ex sede del Patriarcato ecumenico di Costantinopoli. Tra i luoghi di maggiore rilievo figurano la Chiesa patriarcale di San Giorgio, la Chiesa di Chora (famosa per gli affreschi bizantini) e la Chiesa di Sant’Antonio da Padova. Islamic spirituality centres on monumental mosques such as the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, as well as sacred shrines (türbes) such as the Eyüp Sultan Mosque, which houses the tomb of a companion of the Prophet Muhammad. Sufi traditions remain vibrant, particularly through the whirling dervishes (Mevlevi Order); visitors can witness the Sema ceremony at historic sites such as the Galata Mevlevi House Museum, which represents a path of spiritual ascent.

Christian heritage is deeply rooted in the city’s identity, as it was once the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Among the most significant sites are the Patriarchal Church of St George, the Church of Chora (famous for its Byzantine frescoes) and the Church of St Anthony of Padua. Istanbul is also linked to the wider biblical history, serving as a gateway to early Christian centres such as Ephesus and the Seven Churches of the Apocalypse in the surrounding regions.
