🍪 There's one thing we can all agree on: we're fed up with misleading cookie banners. 🚫 And we finally have a chance to get rid of them!
💡 The solution? Simple! Express your privacy preferences once, for example via your browser or device, and have them respected permanently.
📃 A proposal to end this tracking circus is currently on the table of EU lawmakers – and could easily simplify things for everyone in the European Union.

I look at old software and I see: diverse, creative, crafted, often joyful designs, that were also incredibly functional. It felt like there truly was a permission to explore, to play.
I look at current software and I overwhelmingly see: homogenous, bland, rushed, often sad designs. Even the functionality does not nearly always redeem them, as it's being abstracted and hidden away in the name of minimalism. What the systems and tools allow is narrowing down all the time.
Just take me back.

I am actually against building datacenters of all types, not just AI ones.
There is no legitimate reason to build a datacenter ever. The entire internet should be decentralized.

Pending posts for days...⏳
Hello everyone!
I'm relatively new user here on Friendica/Fediverse. I use friendica.world as my node for now...But I noticed some strange things while posting.
Sometimes my post is showing: Delivery to remote servers is pending 0/1
Other times is showing: Delivery to remote servers is underway 1/2
I'm not sure if my posts are available to other users for Friendica and also for the Fediverse...These messages on the posts are there for days ... never going away.
I don't know if the problem is with my profile or something...or it's common issue on the server side...
What do you know about this? I would love to know. (And should I try to use a different node/server instead of friendica.world , or just to wait ?

Has anyone else noticed this optical illusion in the Friendica logo?
Okay, I need to ask the community a serious question because my brain is playing tricks on me every time I look at the top-left corner... 😅
We all know the Friendica logo as a yellow letter "f" on a blue background.
BUT... if you shift your focus for just a second, it suddenly turns into an inverted/negative blue "f" on a yellow background!
Now every time I refresh the page, my brain completely glitches trying to decide whether I'm looking at a yellow "f" or a blue "f". 🔀😂
Is it just me, or have you ever tripped over this figure-ground optical illusion too? Which one do your eyes see first? 👇

Today in Youtube's joke of a fair-use appeal process.
Apparently now Google requires you to give them a lock of your hair before allowing you to file a DMCA fair-use counter-claim to a spurious content-ID rejection.
"Build history as you grow: Once you have enough history, we'll automatically unlock features." Apparently my 14+ year old youtube channel has not yet reached 2 months of active use, according to the vibe-coded math of Google's robots...

I was about to cancel the recurring subscription due in a few days and switch to Mullvad. Well, I have renewed with them, maybe not the best solution but surely I don't wan't to give my koney to you now.
Well played, and thanks for letting us now. Maybe you can become the MAGA VPN of choice now.

as a 'grownup' you need a bigger plushy than you had as a kid to get the same effect! So, you know, go get a BIG plushy!
I'm also perplexed about the device blocking social media, email, etc. It feels like a restriction to your freedom, at least on paper, since they claim Android app compatibility, so how can they restrict you from installing a niche web browser from an APK? I'd also argue email is an important communication tool, even more than WhatsApp, but that's debatable.
The FAQ also says they only allow "AI" apps that aren't trained on copyrighted work, but I doubt their slop images are free of that.

Didn't know #Flatpak apps can have internal updaters interacting with Flatpak directly so that they can update without the need for a graphical store like Discover or touching the command line. Handling things in Discover or the command line is probably more intuitive, but it's neat that apps can do this rather than trying to do their own thing only and possibly messing up files and introducing conflicts.

"This Week in Plasma" brings the news that...
You can add System Settings options to the desktop and have easy access to their configuration page, Discover gets fancy headers for applications, KRunner adds searches from startpage.com, and much more!

KDE supports the "Keep Android Open" campaign
#Google will cut off independent developers to #Android if they do not register with Google first. This will kill independent platforms like @fdroidorg and severely impede FLOSS devs from creating apps for Android.
Many KDE apps are deployed for Android: KDE Connect, Itinerary, Tokodon, and there's even a test version of Krita for Android.
KDE calls on Google to reverse course and @keepandroidopen.

in reply to Har-Har Links • • •@HarHarLinks Hi there! We will provide more information on the website explaining how the solution could look like in practice asap. In short, we favor an approach where a third-party agent can manage such requests and give (based on user choices) specific consent to individual controllers.
You can check out ADPC or navigator.consent for examples for how this can be implemented technically

in reply to noyb.eu • • •Thanks for replying, I look forward to more updates.
Should I not be concerned that solutions with detailed presets like in the navigator.consent demo actually widen the tracking fingerprint surface for bad actors? I understand that anything not sufficiently common I send into the internet is another identifying datum, lessening my privacy stance.
The convenience through technology is nice, but no solution to a problem of a policy not having sufficient teeth to enforce it.
