Mutiny - Drink To Better Days

I've got a bit of history with Mutiny.
When they came over to the UK to tour in the mid-90s, my band played with them in Clacton, a past-its-best seaside town out on the Essex coast, now infamous for electing former banker (but not one of the 'elite') fash Farage as its MP.
The venue was a proper old, but a bit shabby, social club, that had a head barman who was really friendly and really into the music, and looked a lot like Lance Percival.
The gig was put on by Pete who used to do Vacuum Head fanzine. He played us Squarepusher and The Rev Horton Heat for the first time at his gaf after the gig.
Mutiny had brought babies with them on tour, which is an impressive feat by anyone's standards, and a baby-roadie.

Mutiny had brought babies with them on tour, which is an impressive feat by anyone's standards, and a baby-roadie.
Some years later, I received a letter from Briony from Mutiny asking if we were able to sort any gigs out for them for another tour. She had an email address. I replied via email from my mate's computer. It was the first email I had ever sent. I remember asking, "How long will it take to get there?"
In 1997 (I remember the year because it was the time Blair was elected), my mate Rob was in Melbourne and wrote to me telling me that one of Mutiny had come up and said hello, because he was wearing one of our band's t-shirts.
Then, many years later, once we had moved to Adelaide, they came to town to play the Cranker. I was in touch with Greg from the band by this time and he drew my attention to the fact that the flyer/poster from our gig all those years earlier was in the booklet for this compilation CD, as he handed a copy to me.
The other flyers from that tour in the booklet shows they also played with Blyth Power, Oi Polloi, AOS3 and Cukooland - there's a nice snapshot of the UK94 punk scene right there.
I think they came around again a while later and played the Squatters Arms.
I honestly hadn't thought about Mutiny for ages until I pulled this CD out of the box. They play crustie folk-punk along the lines of The Pogues, The Men They Couldn't Hang, Blind Mole Rat...you get the picture. It seems they're still playing.
Those babies would be in their late twenties now, I reckon. Fuck.
