Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Re-act-or
If I'd never heard of Neil Young and you told me to go listen to a 1981 album by a sixties hippie-rocker, pretty much thrown together as the final release of a record contract, and met with poor sales, and critical disapprobation I wouldn't bother. Which made me wonder if I was kind of making allowances for this because I like Neil Young's earlier work.
To these ears, Re-act-or sounds strangely timeless, and that helps. Also, you have to accept that Young has that special something that makes it all work.
I'm not the first to have noticed that this album contains the precursors of grunge, especially in the magnificent final track, Shots. Actually, I like this track more than all of grunge.

The second of Young's "Ditch Trilogy" albums, where he was all anxty and disillusioned with his post-Heart Of Gold fame and fortune and that and was heading from the middle of the road into the ditch.

Neil Young - Comes A Time
In any sensible world, a fair measure of a person would be whether they like Neil Young or not. Unfortunately, it's like we did opposites day when the wind changed direction and we got stuck in the current shitshow. Turns out T***p is a massive Neil Young fan. How am I supposed to assimilate this information? You'd think it would be like a Labrador listening to Beethoven (I nicked that simile off Stuart Lee.)
At least Neil Young thinks T***p's a cunt.
This album has Young returning to his country-folk stylings. It's supposed to be one of his favourites of his own records.
Comes A Time, the song, is so good.
