"We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works..." A Microsoft employee quotes Douglas Adams while dealing with a catastrophic Teams failure during a live webinar.

You can't make this up.

Cosmic Symphony Unveiled: Herbig-Haro 49/50 Captured by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope - This stunning image showcases the reddish-orange outflow of Herbig-Haro 49/50, a jet from a forming star, colliding with surrounding gas and dust. The third of four planned blog posts: this one on nebulæ of one sort or another. (Taken together, the four posts will constitute a log of my deep sky imaging to date.)

Tonight is the peak of the #Geminids meteor shower, the biggest meteor shower after the #Perseids. Sadly, most of Germany will be covered by low clouds. I’ll try my luck about two hours north of Frankfurt. The forecast looks decent for the early morning hours.

📷 : I took this photo last year during the Perseids meteor shower.

This Is Where I Leave You

I've been struggling to leave the classic social media for years... timelines that feel empty. Today I finally am out. No more algorithm trying to guess what makes me angry.

From now on, I only exist in the fediverse: slower, weirder, more human, a little broken in all the right ways. As a nerd who actually cares about how systems shape people, this feels less like switching apps and more like changing the physics of the little corner of the universe where I show up.

To exist only in the fediverse... now that’s a quest.

I have joined numerous social networks and left them numerous times through the years. Some have served me adequately and others not so. Now realizing just how destructive the Internet and the growth of ‘Almost Intelligent’ and their associated power hungry server farms are I struggle to remain connected socially at all. Every time I post, type, search, read my Kindle or draw on my iPad I am increasing my digital and carbon footprint contributing to the further destruction of the planet. I feel 90+ percent of Internet content is drivel. What I post doesn’t add up to a hill of beans in the scheme of things and who cares.

I am worn out with the bombardment of asinine adverts targeting the ignorant and those arrogant influencers who think they know everything. Capitalism and big tech have ruined something that had great potential. And the question is:
