Scientists discover the human heart can regrow muscle after a heart attack | ScienceDaily
Researchers from the University of Sydney, the Baird Institute, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney have determined that the human heart is capable of generating new heart muscle cells following a heart attack.
It was previously believed that heart cells lost during a heart attack could not regenerate. Consequently, the damaged area is replaced by scar tissue, and the heart's pumping capacity diminishes.
According to the study's lead author, Dr. Robert Hume, the new research demonstrates that the heart continues to produce new muscle cells even after a scar has formed. However, this natural repair process is insufficient to compensate for the total loss. The next step is to investigate how to enhance it.

Cyborg cockroaches deliver medication with needles.

Australian scientists have created actual cyborg insects capable of locating people trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings and administering life-saving medication.
Since it is difficult for even a large insect to carry all the necessary equipment at once, engineers divided the tasks between two cockroaches. They selected the Australian giant burrowing cockroach—the heaviest species in the world—for the experiment. One insect carries a surveillance camera, while the other is equipped with a spring-loaded mechanism featuring a medical needle.
An operator controls the insects' movements remotely. Electrodes implanted at the base of their antennae (while under anesthesia) transmit nerve impulses, effectively turning the antennae into a steering mechanism. Once the sensors are removed, the insects return to their normal lives—a humane approach, even for cockroaches!
