Trying again, without the misspelling this time: does #Friendica have functionality to replace Facebook Groups? How well does it do as a replacement?
Also, if anyone has experience adminning a friendica server, I'd also love to hear about that. It's a bit of an old stack, which makes me a little nervous.

@elena I'm glad they're at least using the words "fascist salutes". But by saying "appears to", they are introducing ambiguity where there is none. He is unambiguously, undeniably make Nazi salutes, on camera. These little details matter when we're talking about fascism – the facts of what is happening need to be stated clearly and plainly: "Musk caught on camera making back-to-back fascist salutes."

Kind of like when women have to talk about “grapists” on TikTok or YouTube.
It’s not to diminish the weight of the word “rape” or to avoid calling out a criminal or the criminal act, it’s because if they use that word their video will be removed. But of course censoring the word from being spoken or mentioned on social media websites diminishes the weight of the crime, but that’s a different topic.

Yet again, the Finnish media has difficulties with far-right anyways. Only terrorist are called with the word far-right, otherwise they use softening euphemism.
And look at where we have head on that road - a far-right party in the government. A far-right party, that the Finnish media doesn't call as one. And is even a tad uppset, when foreign media does.

I don’t think he‘s a Nazi. If they have a feature at all it‘s the lack of anything you could call an ideology. This gesture was just saying „I can do whatever I want, wherever I want, and get away with it“. And he seems to be right. Most of the media ducks away. It‘s systematically pushing the limits, a bit more every day.

Up to this point, I'd resisted the accusation, because cynicism is its own deeply corrosive agent of cultural destruction and should be avoided.

Two levels of hedge and qualification is a bit pathetic. It’s obviously true that he appeared to make a Nazi salute. It is also plain that he has been accused of making a Nazi salute. They could report either of those things with no risk of controversy at all. Abject cowardice.
@ditsch42 Unfortunately the whole “don’t let the nazis take over” argument was lost long ago. I also heard about that and it’s my understanding that that’s the quite literal new nazi party minus the antisemitism.

I think that they don't get they way (those who do), rather they show what they've normally been. At that point one can either let it all hang out (aggressing those around) or do the work to address the issues. Musk seems not to be in the latter category.

The CBC isn't even the worst; at least they acknowledge that it might be a "fascist salute." The New York Times headlined an article "Elon Musk Ignites Online Speculation Over the Meaning of a Hand Gesture," as if the paper didn't exist in the 1930s and 40s.
