I just discovered the Fediverse (English) Wikipedia page has a huge section on AT Protocol and I question why. It seems like excessive promotion of Bluesky and its protocol that is not compatible with ActivityPub, both technically and in spirit. Illustrating bridging isn't the same as compatibility. Might as well add sections for other random network protocols like XMPP (Jabber).

This is a purely rhetorical statement that no one (not even you) can agree with. You wouldn’t defend opinions that call for murder, to put it bluntly.
In my case, I do not agree with giving free rein to fascist opinions. The world does not become a better place because of them, contrary to what you write.
It’s clearly not possible to get a refund: you have a 14-day cancellation policy (which has expired in my case), and I don’t blame you for that. I shouldn’t have paid for such a long period, especially with a non-decreasing rate, and I’m the only one to blame. I just wanted you to know why I won’t be renewing, and why I’ll be urging everyone to steer clear of Mullvad."

@renardboy For consumer VPNs, that is spot-on 100%
I generally call them virtual ISPs. They're just acting as a proxy for your internet traffic.
I do use them from time to time. But that's mostly to circumvent network blocks when I'm travelling and my connection to my own VPN server is blocked. Then I use consumer VPNs to get a connection and where I can connect to my own VPN server. I have less reasons to distrust the ISP where my own VPN server is than any other ISP - local or virtual.
But there might be other reasons for consumer VPNs. Like travelling and connecting to unprotected local networks/wifi, then I'd be more willing to trust a consumer VPN I've vetted for.
Or if you just need an IP address from another region than where you are now. But you should vet the VPN provider regardless.
Consumer VPNs does not provide anonymity (you pay for their service and you need to trust they don't log your traffic) nor can they give any privacy (you route your traffic and likely your DNS queries via them).
Tor is better at anonymity, but does not give privacy unless you only use hidden services - the traffic will otherwise exit to the "open" Internet somewhere. How strong the anonymity part is, depends on how much you trust the relay nodes in the network. It's not completely impossible to track where a Tor connection starts - but for most common users, this is less of a concern.
For a better anonymity network, you'd probably need to look at I2P networks.

I've dug through some of those rabbit holes a few times earlier. It's mostly been misinterpreted information ending up with false fact claims, often due to Protons incapable public relation team combined with CEO statements adding more confusion than clarity. People teaching public relation management have an unending source of how to not do things when looking at Proton.
Majority of these false claims comes from users who gave Proton a clear-text recovery address which Proton had to give away as that was the Swiss courts ruling. If these users hadn't been as stupid to enable this recovery address, no information of real value could have been provided. Also, those recovery addresses was typically hotmail or gmail accounts. So guess what happens next when these requests comes from entities in the USA.
For VPN accounts, there is no logging of traffic. Which has even been confirmed by third party auditors ... protonvpn.com/blog/no-logs-aud…
So yes, Proton has provided limited details due to law enforcement requests coming via Swiss courts. Which generally turns out valuable when the account owner hasn't understood how to protect its account. And if Proton - or Mullvad, or basically any other company in the world - don't adhere to court rulings, those companies won't survive the end of the day.
But if you're doing a more sane protection of your Proton account, there is generally very little which can leak out from it, even in cases which ends up in a disfavourable court ruling. Protecting your account is in the very end the account owners responsibility.

I have heard only good things about Fastmail.
Unlike Proton and Tuta, they don’t market themselves as ‘secure, private’ email, but that always smelled like snake oil to me (email isn’t end-to-end encrypted, neither of them have done the work to run the mail server in a TEE where you’d get guarantees that they couldn’t see it and, even if they did, it’s hard to prove that they didn’t insert a relay that copied the email out before forwarding).
Defending the right isn't the same as defending the thing.

I am a long-time Mullvad user. I support people's right to express and access views that I disagree with free from government interference. But I try not to give my money to people who will then give that money on to Fascists. That is the issue.
So, in good conscience, I cannot continue to send money to a company that enriches Daniel Berntsson, so that he can give the money to Örebropartiet.
Many authoritarians say they support free expression when they do not have power, then to suppress it once they do. Lenin and Trotsky talked a good game about freedom of speech until they had power. If Örebropartiet protects freedom of expression once they have power, it'll be the first time a far-right party does so. If Daniel Berntsson thinks they will, he's a fool.

This is just badly-worded corporate talk that you copied and pasted dozens of times under every critical post, instead of offering an honest response to what is legitimate concern. And the vagueness of "we protect the right to express and access views we disagree with" does not do you any favours either. In politics there are opposing views as to how finances are handled, and there are those whose views include the notion that entire minorities do not deserve equal rights.
Karl Popper's paradox of tolerance explains in very simple terms how accepting, let alone financially supporting, such views indiscriminately is not as honourable and harmless as you are suggesting. Presenting the financial support of a political party as the noble cause of protecting what you refer to as free speech is a false equivalent. Matter of fact, political parties and politicians do not just "express views" and then go home and nobody is affected. Their very existence is based on aiming to turn those views into legislation, directly affecting the lives of thousands, or millions.
Framing people who ask for refunds because they do not wish for their money to contribute in financing a specific political party with views that go against their ethics as not supporting free speech is dishonest and reprehensible. Do better.

@fringemagnet And if fascists use Mullvad to protect themselfs, for their privacy, and that’s a known thing and we can’t really do anything because of privacy principles, I’m okay with that.
But giving money to fascists is a way different problem that can’t be ignored. And yeah, it’s a "personal decision" of the cofounder, but ultimately it’s money he had because of Mullvad, and he’s going to gain money from it in the future too, so paying Mullvad mean giving money to someone that fund fascists with it after. So we can’t separate the company from its founder, except if you fire him and don’t give him any more money from your profit, saying that you disagree with what he’s doing with it.
And I don’t think that’s what is going to happen.

And yet can you guarantee that all money that I give you flows to preserve the freedom of everyone to be freely able to express, live and have privacy? You cannot, since it is proven a large sum went indirectly into making a party that cares about none of those things and actively wants to dismantle human rights.
Caring about only some human rights is impossible, and pretending they are not inherently linked is intellectually dishonest. This isn't a mere "difference of opinion", I'd like to ask you how one could be pro free speech information and privacy when one would like to discriminate based on nationality, deny people entry and housing based on where they come from and discriminate based on place of origin/language/skin colour (these are all personal identification information!!).

I was thinking about how you might try and respond to this and I was expecting you arguing about there being two owners and that this is a private thing and bla bla bla. No surprise here. But implying that the people who want a refund now, also don't want to "protect the right to express and access views we disagree with" is insulting. I can't even begin to describe how angry I am right now. **Who** actually tries to remove the right to free speech and free expression? It's exactly those fascist assholes who just got a part of the money **we** spent on **your** service. You can't disconnect yourself from this. Since it's a small party currently, it doesn't gather much attention by the bigger media houses in Sweden yet (at least not in these World Cup days). Smaller news sites, like flamman.se and nyadagbladet.se covers it so far. But as this will propagate further, the bigger news oulets will pick it up - as right radical movements has a tendency to get quite some attention - at least in the Nordic countries.
Right now, the Örebro Party is scrambling enough votes to be qualified for the next parliament election. That was already covered last autumn and winter in more news outlets.

I hadn't read Luka The Mouse's page before today, but it looks good to me. It's the path I took, more or less.
I went from Google to custom email domain + Proton, and then moved the custom email domain from Proton to Tuta.
I use a self-hosted version of the open source sandstorm.org for my cloud drive. But you have to be relatively technical to do that.
I moved from Proton Pass for password manager to Bitwarden, but Bitwarden has been doing things I dislike. I'm looking for other alternatives.

This is a hard “it depends” for me. As with the slop of yesteryear it can be used to gamify oneself into addiction to a corporation, or out of a bad habbit.
And it isn't panacea, even if used “for good”. Me with executive disfunction can gamify myself into depression, trough self-depreciation.
