Girls At Our Best! – Pleasure
The recovery from my molar extraction is taking longer then I anticipated and I’ve started dreaming about eating real food that’s not mush. It’s been a miserable time. To distract myself, I decided to go through and properly alphabetise my punk / post punk / 80’s indie section of my records as I'm struggling to find things. Such a useful important task.... Many of these are from when I was 17 onwards and are quite sentimental. Although it’s not really a genre I buy much of now, I am constantly amazed by how many bands from that era I still learn about today. Back when I collected most of these I would rely on friends, radio, and music magazines until I got terribly slow dial up internet.
Girls at Our Best were a short lived UK post punk / indie band from Leeds. They were a later discovery for me via my local community radio station ThreeD. I was coming back from doing a home visit to a client in the work car and had to pull over, wait till the song finished (I didn't have shazam) and then 3 more tracks until the back announcing to find out who this was and write a note. Across my jobs, I like to leave the work cars on this radio station as it’s a real mix bag and confuse my co-workers when they have the car next.
After looking at the prices on discogs that night I resigned to the fact I wouldn’t find a copy in the wild. Then some years later I stumbled on a copy in the $10 bin out the back of Wolfies records. It doesn’t come with the paper pleasure bag or stencil, and the cover is falling apart but I don’t care. It's great!
