A status report of sorts of future plans is coming up, but considering that my website is currently um.. rather bare, I thought to expand on my intro with some past doings~
My main #sewing niches have been #RenFaire garb and #cosplay.
The earliest was a #medieval girdle belt, with a #celtic interlaced border design embroidered on felt (yes, craft felt. I was a noob.) to go with a long, princess seamed dress my mom had commissioned for me. (Closet!Guinevere, FTW!) I didn't know the design was celtic at the time, come to think of it, though!

Next endeavor was from some Robin-Hood-esque costume pattern package of a lightweight cloak and chemise with a d-ring belt. All sewn by hand, because.. it's period.
Following that silliness, was a re-creation of celtic garb -- a plain tunic dress and brat, with an embroidered belt -- off a book cover. The #embroidery is celtic, but mainly animal figures with minor #knotwork. Not fancy. Made a few plain tunic dresses as well and a couple of tunic/skirt combos. Super comfy, lemme tell ya!
Things changed a bit from there. #Wench garb became my jam. I made chemises and skirts, but the bodices were purchased. Lived my best hootie life for a spell. π
Sometime during my wench phase, I fell into cosplay, starting with Sailor Moon (1st season) for Halloween. That was made for the most part from a heavily modified kid's pattern available at the time. Then I learned of anime conventions, and THAT sent me down a costuming rabbit hole. Then came Princess Serenity. Small changes to classic Moon to the 2nd season version. Then Super Sailor Moon. Then Sailor Cosmos from the manga artbook. Also made Mia Ausa from Lunar: Silver Star Story and Megumi Takani from Rurouni Kenshin. Had a couple others that never got off the ground for whatever reason. Kinda got real busy staffing an anime convention after that.
Most recently, things have gotten real mundane -- I made some canvas shopping bags, and I started to knit (2nd attempt at the hobby, woo) a dishcloth. I'll get back to the #knitting soon.
That's the gist of it. Inspirations are afoot! π

Energy will be entirely dependent on solar and wind generation, with no fossil fuel or dirty emissions in sight β and circular economies are the only system in place. All waste will either be reused or repurposed, and resources and transport are guaranteed sustainable and clean. Activities such as rainwater harvesting, permaculture farming, and community gardening will be commonplace, while Indigenous knowledge and practices are celebrated and used across sectors to improve efficiency of resource consumption.

Unlike cyberpunks who imagine the world being dominated by evil corporations, solarpunks imagine a society where people and planet are prioritised over the individual and profit. Essentially, say goodbye to conglomerates, hierarchies, and excessive wealth, and say hello to decentralised and open-source technologies, shared knowledge, as well as community building and cooperation.

The βpunkβ element in solarpunk refers to the movementβs unapologetically optimistic take on the future despite our growing pessimism and even apathy, and passionately calls for radical societal change β abandoning current capitalist markets and infrastructure.
The movement sparks discussion about current systemic problems and the need for societal changes, as seen with the increasing popularity of concepts such as degrowth, which seeks to scale down the resource use of high income nationsβ economies by shrinking sectors that are ecologically damaging and offer little social benefit, and pursue growth not by economic expansion, but that is ecologically and socially just for all.

Solarpunk needs a lot of intentional thought when it comes to painting better futures, so that it doesn't default to greenwashing what's imaginable right now π

Absolutely!
Anarchy, anarchist, have been greatly misunderstood and misrepresented. Often, if not mostly, by malign intention by people in power who don't want regular people to understand it.
Anarchy is about building better lives for everybody, sharing power, sharing work, sharing responsibilities and joys, by deciding together. Most flavors advocate some kind of community organizing with shared decision making, rather than hierarchical.

One of my most fave video channel thinkers has sevaral videos on solarpunk as well as on anarchism. They are not the same, but if a solarpunk and an anarchist met at a picnic, a permablitz, a protest action, a mutual aid event, a book club or a library, they would likely view each other as siblings.

in reply to Ed Wiebe • • •@edwiebe @rustoleumlove @crazyeddie there are many types of anarchy. Anarchists tend to be optimistic about their beliefs, believe in the strength of community, and believe they can still build a society. It's not the same definition of anarchy as when people describe "(violent) lawlessness" or the opposite of government; it's a different type of government as far as I can tell*
*I don't know if I identify as anarchist but I appreciate their focus community cohesion/solidarity
