Extinction of species is happening now, and, it is increasing. This is critical to civilization as the world would not longer sustain it with the collapse happening. There is contribution from food choices along with a number of other things in civilization that civilization would continue with which are not sustainable. Sustainable communities could continue but with simplicity apart from anything of civilization.
