The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - The Impossible Dream

My other pick-up from Big Star this morning was this.

This was their ‘difficult’ third album. An album which they recorded, finished, scrapped and re-recorded.

Lyrically and thematically, Harvey is in full theatrical mode by this time. Musically, it’s grand and expansive without sounding proggy. I think that’s due to Zal Cleminson’s fine guitar playing, which is always there to support, not overpower the songs.

I bought this just to fill the gap in my collection, fearing it might be a bit of a lame duck. I have been very pleasantly surprised. I’m going to really enjoy getting into this album.
